The website of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), shows that the coronavirus vaccine from Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca and the British University of Oxford has changed its name to Vaxzevria, and indicates that Vaxzevria is composed of a modified adenovirus that, since it is not SARS-CoV-2 itself, cannot cause COVID-19.

The portal of the Swedish National Medicines Agency (Läkemedelsverket) confirms that the name change was approved by the EMA on March 25 after a request from the company.

Interesting that EU countries have been banning, flop flopping over ages and banning again when the real numbers are....just makes you wonder how many have died of COVID whilst they de-risk their citizens from such horrific numbers.

You Brits are so smug because you got so much of the AZ vaccine , I would laugh so much when the complications start developing and you all turn into man size otters or what ever that thing in your avatar is. LOL
By the way, how would the Brits even know if they are having a brain blood clot? They would probably think it is that warm beer they drink, kicking in.

^ Another thing you've got wrong, sadly, is we're not smug. The AZ is truely a world vaccine and made available that way. The whole vaccine response world wide through its country level developement and roll-out is a failure to the 3rd world. So whilst you sit in America with your OAP lapping up plaudits for the roll out perforance stats, 90% of the world population are wondering when they'll get vaccinated, does that help your understanding.

I count myself as being lucky to live in the sandpit at this point, where they are happy to throw money at the drug companies to buy all the vaccines they could need and give them away to anyone who wants them.

    Not at all.
I notice that you did not challenge my second point , so you either agree with me on that point, or you are also experiencing a brain blood clot.

Stop being such an utter otter, I am only having fun with you. ,
you don't really think I believe you will all turn into otters and that you all wont even notice you have brain damage?

I can see why some some think i'm championing AZ for its Brit roots but that is not the case. The world needs vaccines quickly, and perhaps in the future given lessons learned capability will be grown on a more regional basis so that poorer countries have the capability to manufacture, if not develop themselves. In the meantime the one vaccine available under licence at cost globally is AZ, a vaccine that has been called into question over its efficacy and potential mortality stats, as yet uncomfimred but which likely offers significant protection against fatal complications from COVID, all at c$3, the alternatives are largely US or EU owned commercial product costing 4 to 9 times as much and are not available under licence.

So why does the negative commentary and press annoy me, well, it seems obvious to me that certain quarters and companies have much to gain from tarnishing AZ, and they couldn't give a flying Fuk about mortality in the third world or anywhere else as long as their products get front and centre and profit roll in.

China's TopRidge Pharma to produce Sputnik V vaccine, Russia's RDIF says

MOSCOW (Reuters) - China’s TopRidge Pharma has agreed to produce more than 100 million doses of Russia’s two-shot Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19, Russia’s RDIF sovereign wealth fund said on Thursday.

The fund, which markets Sputnik V globally, said the two sides planned to cooperate on clinical trials in China and to promote its use there.

TopRidge Pharma will be able to distribute the vaccine in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, RDIF said in a statement.

Why do people say that the Russian vaccine is not good? I really dont know much about it, but I am sure the Chinese are not stupid, or have no other options.

There's no reason to believe the Russian vaccine is not good. There's no reason to believe the Chinese vaccine is not good.
It's the history of lies, deceit, misinformation propagated by these states that leads to distrust.

^ I thought Sputnik was very effective but the Sinovac not so much. However, any vaccine that works even 50% helps. Get them in peoples arms!

    There is ample reason.

There is a lack of trust in the Russians telling the truth about their vaccine efficacy. Lying through their teeth about their Covid and Covid death numbers didn't help.

In the case of Sinopharm, it's just the raw data.

My antibody count post-Pfizer was 1380.

My colleagues' counts post-Sinopharm were as low as 79.

According to our lab manager, Sinopharm has produced results even worse than that.

The UAE have been giving people a third dose to try and make it work.

It's fucking shit, and the Thais know it.

An efficacy of 50% is better than none, and if it stops hospitalisations and deaths, even better.

But even Sri Lanka binned Sinopharm.

    It's shit.

Covid was third-leading cause of death in the U.S. last year

Covid-19 was the third-leading cause of death in the United States last year, surpassing accidental deaths, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Wednesday.

Only heart disease and cancer caused more deaths.

What's more, the pandemic accelerated the U.S. death rate.

"In 2020, about 3.3 million deaths occurred in the United States. Overall, this represents a 16 percent increase in deaths from 2019," CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said at a news briefing Wednesday. Covid-19 deaths accounted for roughly 11 percent of deaths in 2020.

I agree, I would not trust the Russian government as far as I can spit.
but if the Chines are buying into it, and , and are betting their national recovery, I would hope they have done their homework .

I think they overestimated their ability to take all the vaccine technology they stole from the West and actually put it to work.

I suppose with Sinopharm being so shit it is a logical step to fill the gap.

Based on data provided by the Russians.

Safety needs trials to verify, but effectiveness can be tested.
