BANGKOK (Reuters) - Two private hospitals in Thailand have ordered millions of doses of coronavirus vaccines ahead of regulatory approval, adding to government orders of vaccines as the Southeast Asian country tackles a second wave of the virus.

For patients, Thonburi’s medical centres plan to offer two vaccine injections for 3,200 baht ($106.28).

The China-Africa Vaccine Air Bridge is Open.

    February 9, 2021

"A specially modified Ethiopian Airlines jet landed in Addis Ababa on Saturday from Beijing marking the beginning of the new air bridge linking China and Africa to deliver millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

The vaccine shipment on this particular flight transited through the Ethiopian capital on its way to N’Djamena, the capital of Chad.

The vaccines were transported by Ethiopian Airlines’ Pharma Wing division in containers designed to withstand temperatures as low as -230C. However, what’s important about this particular shipment is that it’s the debut of ET’s partnership with Cainiao, Alibaba’s logistics division, to facilitate the transport of vaccines throughout Africa.

    T
he two companies announced their transportation logistics partnership in November, saying that they’ll deliver vaccines from China to Africa with distribution hubs in both Addis Ababa and Dubai. Now it appears that the venture is already operational."

Interesting you should raise that just after this data demonstrates that Russia have been seriously covering up their death toll. I mean we knew they were fudging it a bit but...

Officially Russia has declared 79,000 deaths linked to Covid-19, however this has proven to be a lie, as new information indicates the figure to be 480,000.
I mean the excess deaths could be down to Putin, but that's an awful lot of cups of Polonium char.

Putin's lies revealed – Russia has most coronavirus deaths

Coronavirus outbreak much wider in Wuhan in December, 2019: Report

According to reports, coronavirus investigators have discovered that signs of coronavirus outbreak were much wider in Wuhan in December 2019 than previously thought.

The development was revealed by lead investigator for the WHO mission to US news network CNN. Peter Ben Embarek told CNN that investigators are urgently seeking access to hundreds and thousands of blood samples from Wuhan even as China has so far prevented the samples to be tested.

Reports claimed Beijing had refused access to raw data on the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. There have been persistent concerns that the virus may have been spreading in China long before its first official emergence in mid-December. China had reported the first case of the virus to the WHO on December 31, 2019.

WHO's food safety specialist Embarek said that 174 cases of coronavirus in and around Wuhan in December 2019 were presented by Chinese scientists out of these, hundred were confirmed by laboratory tests and another 74 through the clinical diagnosis of the patient's symptoms with likely severe cases noticed by Chinese doctors early.

Embarek said it was possible that the larger number meant the disease could have hit an estimated 1,000-plus people in Wuhan in December, 2019.

The latest findings reportedly revealed that there were over a dozen strains of the virus in Wuhan already in December, 2019.

A team of WHO experts had gone to China in January to investigate the origins of the COVID-19 and after two weeks in quarantine, they visited key sites including the Huanan Seafood market which was the same location where first known cluster of infections were identified.

Peter Ben Embarek had said that bats remain a likely source of the virus. He had also said that transmission via frozen food was a possibility that calls for further investigation.

However, experts have ruled out reports of lab leak leading to the virus outbreak. Scientists have pushed for more research about the early days of the outbreak in Wuhan.

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysia will get its first batch of COVID-19 vaccines produced by U.S. and German drugmakers Pfizer and BioNTech on Feb. 21, and kick off its inoculation drive five days after that, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said on Tuesday.

It makes sense since you have so few cases. The vaccine needs to go to the places with the worst rates of infection. IMHO the US and the UK should be getting the overwhelming majority of the vaccine right now.

I have two more wake-ups until I get my first jab.

Not when there is a shortage of doses. I am glad that your leaders see it that way. You should be happy that you are in a country that is so healthy and safe. You have not had to go through the horrible fear of catching the virus and the necessary lockdowns that many of us have had to endure over the last year. Stop complaining you are lucky.

Sorry, I've got no good news today.

Thai Airways International will carry the first 200,000 doses of a Covid-19 vaccine from China to Thailand on Feb 24.
THAI chairman ACM Chaiyapruk Didyasarin said on Tuesday the airline had been chosen by the Public Health Ministry to transport the vaccine, supplied by China’s Sinovac Biotech Co.
A Thai Airways Airbus A350-900 would carry the shipment, comprising 200,000 doses. The plane would depart China at 6.50am (local time) on Feb 24 and arrive at Suvarnabhumi airport about 11.05am.

India’s dramatic fall in virus cases leaves experts stumped

NEW DELHI (AP) — When the coronavirus pandemic took hold in India, there were fears it would sink the fragile health system of the world’s second-most populous country. Infections climbed dramatically for months and at one point India looked like it might overtake the United States as the country with the highest case toll.

But infections began to plummet in September, and now the country is reporting about 11,000 new cases a day, compared to a peak of nearly 100,000, leaving experts perplexed.

They have suggested many possible explanations for the sudden drop — seen in almost every region — including that some areas of the country may have reached herd immunity or that Indians may have some preexisting protection from the virus.

The Indian government has also partly attributed the dip in cases to mask-wearing, which is mandatory in public in India and violations draw hefty fines in some cities. But experts have noted the situation is more complicated since the decline is uniform even though mask compliance is flagging in some areas.

It’s more than just an intriguing puzzle; determining what’s behind the drop in infections could help authorities control the virus in the country, which has reported nearly 11 million cases and over 155,000 deaths. Some 2.4 million people have died worldwide.

If we don’t know the reason, you could unknowingly be doing things that could lead to a flare-up,” said Dr. Shahid Jameel, who studies viruses at India’s Ashoka University.
