KALASIN: A female university student and male companion were arrested and fined on Friday after photos of her naked at night on a bridge across Lampao reservoir went viral online.

The 22-year-old woman, a second-year student at a well-known university in Maha Sarakham province, and the 23-year-old man, also a student at the same university, were taken to Sahatsakhan police station in Kalasin on Friday for questioning.

Pictures of the young woman, seen standing and lying naked in the middle of Thepsuda Bridge across Lampao reservoir in Kalasin, were posted recently on a Facebook account. The naked photos, which were later deleted, sparked heavy criticism from Facebook users.

This prompted Kalasin governor Kraisorn Kongchalard to order police to track down the woman and the photographer. The two students were apprehended on Friday.

The students, close friends and both natives of Kalasin, told police they went to the bridge by car around 10.30pm on April 4. After parking the vehicle, they began the photo shoot. The woman took off her clothes with the man taking photos.

They told the officers they chose that time because there were no people around or vehicles using the bridge, and the atmosphere on the bridge was good.

The woman said the photos were taken for her private collection. The pair insisted they had not been drunk at the time and what they did was innocent but impetuous, Pol Maj Gen Montri Charanpong, chief of Kalasin police, said later.

The photos were kept on a mobile phone, and the two students told the police they had no idea how they came to be posted online.

Pol Col Prayut Aranchot, superintendent of Sahatsakhan police, said the two apologised to local residents for their action, which badly affected the tourist image of the province, particularly Sahatsakhan district.
Police charged the students with acting in an obscene manner, which carries a fine of up to 5,000 baht. They were fined 1,000 baht and then released.

Would've these activities still have been considered criminal if not gone viral or promoted publicly?

I beg to differ, it will attract peeping toms from far and wide.

Yet, still remains quite a spectacular region - especially during the rainy season. [despite the make-believe bucket lists in the millions]

Ah yes, the Kalasin days. Remembered quite fondly.

22 year old student with a fat belly. Doesn't bode well for her. Probably dancing around a pole nightly, would reduce the spare tyre.

I'm getting old, I can't make the pet out. Is that a gerbils tail, a python or both sticking out of her orifices?
