Pedestrian Crushed by Falling Construction Site Crane

Police and rescue workers were summoned to a construction site in central Thailand after a crane collapsed, killing a pedestrian and injuring two others, in Samut Prakan province.

The deputy investigation chief at the Bang Bo police station, Pol Capt Chakthong Khaammaphol, said Chalerm Chanong, 48, was crushed to death.

There were two injuries – a 22-year-old woman, Piyada Khi-inthi, and a 24-year-old man, Iem Kanthiya. The media reported earlier that three people were injured.

The construction site crane, which weighs eight tonnes, was used to lay concrete on the second floor of the five-storey condominium building on Rattanarat Road in tambon Bang Bo, the Bangkok Post reported.

In a matter of seconds, it collapsed onto an adjacent row of rented rooms. In those rooms, two people were injured.

A falling construction site crane crushed the motorcyclist after he stepped out of a food stall.

Somtam seller Pennapha Yuyuen, 42, said the man bought lunch from her stand. Following his departure, she heard a loud noise and saw the crane collapse.

The crane driver, who was injured in the arm, was being held for questioning and the supervising engineer would be called in for questioning, Police Capt Chakthong said.

The engineer in charge of a condominium construction site will be questioned by police.

Safety first! As stated at all working sites (while workers flip-flop their way up to their positions)...

TBH cranes fall in Farangland too, I remember we had several occurrences like this about 10 years ago before authorities decided to step up the checks.
