Thailand braces itself for influences of Typhoon Hato

BANGKOK, 22 August 2017 (NNT) - The Royal Irrigation Department has instructed irrigation projects nationwide to prepare for the influences of Typhoon Hato expected to cause heavy rains from 23-28 August 2017.

Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department Sanchai Ketworachai said Typhoon Hato will strengthen the southwestern monsoon, resulting in more rains and heavy rains in some areas in the northern, northeastern and western region as well as the western part of the South.

The department therefore instructed all irrigation projects, especially those in flood-prone areas, to prepare for possible flooding by closely monitoring the water situation and make sure that irrigation structures work to full capacity. As for the flood-prone areas, at least one water pump must be installed and other equipment must be ready for use so as to provide timely assistance for the flood-affected people.

Just getting into the early typhoon season and already two have pushed deeply inland - which doesn't always occur.

Might we expect an opposing season of more colliding systems?

Those of you living in the mainland are sissies. It's just a bit of rain & wind. Try having a category 4 typhoon, coupled with some mag 6.0+ earthquakes. Pffft.

Cheers. Hope all are warm & dry. Or cold & wet. Whatever floats your boat.

Edit: just read the details again. Winds of 120 kph. Pfft!

My only concern is that it's cleared Myanmar by the 31st. I don't want those Bangkok Airways folk cancelling their flights because they don't want their precious ATR72's getting bounced around a bit.
