Several fortune and fun seekers have flocked to Tambon Ron Thong in Bang Saphan district of Prachuab Khiri Khan to pan for gold in a stream.

The gold rush was mainly prompted by a words of mouth circulating in the district that several villagers who make a living by panning for gold in Klong Thong in Ban Paron have found more gold after the recent flooding.

One of the gold hunters, 43-year old Prayong Netsongsri, said that he was quite lucky two days ago. After a day of panning in the stream, he said he found only a bit of gold dust and decided to return home, but, on the way back while walking on the bank of the strem, he stumbled on a gold nugget which he eventually sold to a trader at 35,000 baht.

He described the gold nugget as one of the biggest ever found in the area.

Besides the gold hunters, traders also flocked to the village to buy gold on the spot.

Prices vary in accordance with the sizes of the gold – in the form of dust, pieces or nugget.
