I think they do.
Listening to the old lady next door, they certainly do, the way she talks to her grandson, "Yes, your toy broke because you sinned!", "Ha, you stubbed your toe because you sinned!", "If you don't come to the temple with me, it means you sin!".

Tam baap is what the old lady talks about. she even reckons gossiping about monks is tam baap.....but gossiping about neighbours is ok, of course.

I see your point though: do something, suffer a consequence.
But really, karma is not instant, it's in your reincarnation.....isn't it?

Do good receive good do bad receive bad? bad thing cant atone if you do bad.. bad thing still with you till you die
