Street vendors banned from areas surrounding Grand Palace

BANGKOK, 25 October 2016 (NNT) – Street vendors have been prohibited from selling their products in areas around the Grand Palace, while authorities are stepping up security with an increased number of CCTVs.

Bangkok Deputy Governor Amnuay Nimmano disclosed that the Joint Administration Center for Maintaining Peace and Order will be asking all street vendors and peddlers for their cooperation by relocating and selling their items outside areas surrounding the Grand Palace.

Municipal authorities will strictly patrol the areas and violators will be immediately prosecuted, he said.

For safety measures, CCTVs have been connected and the authorities are on high alert for criminals in the areas. Prosecution of violators will also extend to public transport operators who overcharge mourners.

He added that members of the general public traveling with children are advised to give their children the necessary personal or contact information in case they become separated by accident.

Food distribution will continue until 8 p.m., while drinking water can be distributed around the clock, according to the Bangkok Deputy Governor.

He went on to say that Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will install balloons above its tents for the public to easier identify information or support centers operated by state officials.
