E-payment system to be fully operational next year

BANGKOK, 28 May 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Finance says the national e-payment system will be ready by July next year.

Minister for Finance Apisak Tantivorawong, said on Friday that preparation of the national e-payment system has made some significant progress and he is confident that the system will be fully functional by July 1st, 2017.

He said those interested in the national e-payment system can find additional information on www.epayment.go.th.

He went on to say that the government is now working on developing the ‘Any ID’ service which will allow people to connect their ID number with their bank accounts and their phone numbers. With the ‘Any ID’ service, people can wire money to their accounts without showing a passbook.

People will be able to register for the ‘Any ID’ service from July 15th, 2016 onwards.

Only interested in how much of a pain in the ass this will be for expats, and if Thai banks will see it as an opportunity to extort large fees on every transaction.

How is e pay supposed to work with Noi and Lek at Slaphappy Bar?
