When talking about Thai Road deaths and accidents it must be taken into consideration that between 70% and 80% of road deaths involve motorbikes. To get a valid comparison with a country that does not have the volume of motorbikes on the roads you have to take this into consideration.
We have just completed over 4700KM on a trip round the south of Thailand and the never saw a road accident happen. We did see the aftermath of 4 accidents involving motorbikes one with a dead body covered with a sheet.
There are idiots on the road but to say that all Thai drivers are bad is just silly as most are good and will just stay out of the way when they see an idiot.
Strangely most of the idiots we saw seemed to be driving Toyotas. Does owning a Toyota cause idiocy or do idiots buy Toyotos ?
^ Not really, when the driver of a larger or faster vehicle hits a motorcycle (or any other slower vehicle from behind) the coconut head in the larger or faster vehicle is usually the party at fault.

This is my concern also. General data and Songkran stats about road accidents don't accurately indicate how many involve motorcyclists - from memory, figures of 85% are mentioned (there are also reports about how many are on rural roads) but does this mean 85% of deaths are motorcyclists (on rural roads)?
I've just completed a few kms around Chumphon and PKK and only noticed one accident but, fucking hell, the driving on the sections of the main N-S highway that are being resurfaced takes some believing!!!
I agree - beware of Toyota drivers - especially those black Fortuner bastards.

Keep em coming Hans ,after all you cannot have too much of the truth, or can you?
That reminds me of an accident by the old farm where I grew up. Semi truck full of ice cream bars lost its load. It was early winter and I ate ice cream bars for weeks, foraging in the snow. Now, 55 years later, foraging for a Leo would be great!
