Noted from years of close observation and experience.

Thai practices, in references to rules, tend to be guided by social/community acceptance [or not], rather than abiding by an officialdom institutional code.

The so-called rules/codes that Wats/monks are to follow have been relaxed over the years and certainly modified or tweeked here and there - regardless of what is written officially on paper.

Most of such traditional practices and values have been thrown out the window and replaced with more destructive worth, unfortunately.

Do the Thudong Monks (Forest dwellers) have to jump through the hoops and fit the criteria prior to ordination, abide by the rules laid out by the top Wallahs and adhere to the orders of the ''Buddhism office'' etc?

I'm sure that if I ask the local temple, they will say "dai dai, mai mee pan ha" (yes we can no pb), but that doesn't mean that's true considering the tradition of bending rule, that was my point, that's all...

This apply to petty issues such as Ice cream, but also to more critical issues such as receiving money donation, to keep distance with modern consumption society, and in some case basic ethics.

Monks are financialy supported by the population, so it's normal to have some duties, and rules to abide ... otherwise Monkhood would be considered a job like any other, not a vocation ... what? did I say something odd or funny?
