KUCHING: Two British nationals were believed to have been stabbed to death by a group of local men following an encounter at Abell Road early this morning.
The victims, aged 22 and 23, were found lying on the road several metres apart around 4am with serious bodily wounds.
Police are still verifying their identities.
The four suspects said to be involved are believed to have been arrested. Confirmation of the arrests is yet to be obtained.

Victims are said to be medical students attached to the general hospital here.
Victims were believed to have been drinking earlier at Travillion and were walking back to a backpackers lodge near Green Hill Road when they encountered the suspects, believed to be drunk from their own drinking session at a pub at Mile 3.
Both parties were said to have confronted each other before the locals attacked the victims with sharp weapons and fled afterwards.
The police will hold a press conference later today.

Just bloody awful reading for they're parents today .

As a Brit myself I just cannot understand this drink till drop mentality which seems to exist these days .

If I had the opportunity like they had at they're age to go to the other side of the world I would have embraced it and enjoyed every fibre of it . There is just too much to see learn and explore ,, however the default line for so many Brits now is to drink or drug or both your way through whatever life experience appear in front of them .

Might as well have been in Gateshead where they came from for all they knew .

What a shame what a waste
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

    Jeez.
2 promising medical students who by all reports were decent people. Someone's kids, someone's friends. These things just don't "happen". Some prick murdered them. That means he decided to do physical harm.
Kuching is a boring town and the last time I was there was over a decade ago. All I remember was that this region of Malaysia was beautiful, the hotel on the South China Sea where I was staying was incredibly hot - like a hot bath and the locals were politely distant. I still have the souvenir pen from the tourism people of Sarawak that they gave me for filling out their survey at the airport.

    yes, it's very quiet.

i visited there a few months back and there was very little in the way of pubs or nightlife.

i read another report that said the 2 lads were being noisy in a bar and got into a dispute with the 4 locals.

many of the native Borneo lads have "parangs" (machetes) handy in the car/truck if they need to go into the jungle. they probably used them to stab the pair to death.

I've been to kuching a few times now, yes it is quiet but I liked the feel of the town and how its situated on the river.

Very interesting museum there and close to the Bako national park which is a great day out. Also a large cultural park near by.

Something has gone down with the two young guys, pissed up more than likely and tackled the wrong group.

Not just they where walking down the street and set upon and killed.

I did not want to say that but kuching is a small friendly town and two white boys don't end up dead unless they have seriously pissed off the wrong locals.

    loudmouth chavs

    4th year Medical students.

probably just said the wrong thing to the wrong person. there is a culture of "gansterism" in Borneo....Miri and KK seem to be the worst places for it.

Same here. I think the local lads who murdered them will be strung up....the Sarawak government will want to make an example of them.

Sometimes, meeting locals in their habitat after a night on the piss, one doesn't have to do very much to arouse imaginary slights.

As a young chap in Singapore I and some chums would find ourselves in Geylang en route home after a night out. I'm not saying it was a frequent occurrence but it was certainly not uncommon for a local gang of Malays to attack us for no other reason than we were there. Chucking rocks and hitting us with their belts was the favoured strategy I recall.

These days it would be knives and billy clubs.

Such a waste indeed, but all to often I've seen drunken British getting into it, usually with each other.

Two medical students get murdered who knows how many life's they have saved and would have gone on to save if given the chance.
They get murderd by people who have previous Dr Chai told a news conference that two of the suspects have criminal records for drug abuse and armed robbery.
And members of this board think its okay because they are British, personally what ever nationality these two men were don't think they deserved to be executed before trial by jury.
    RIP

Southeast Asians, as a rule, are psychotic. Playful Friday night fisticuffs don't really exist - they fight to kill.

This information should come with every ticket to Bangkok.

Indeed Slap, I think it has something to do with the unrelenting heat, an incapacity for cognitive thought and the awareness that irrespective of how many amulets or tattoos they get their lives will never amount to more than a hill of beans.

    No matter what

No matter what these two medical students were saying, they did not deserve to be summarily slaughtered by that gang of subnormal Malay pondlife.

In Newcastle the worst case scenario in the same situation is probably a bottling or a kicking.

Somtamslap is right. These two students were probably unaware of the incapacity of most uneducated young Asian males to apply reason when riled. They snap and go mental. Pity the poor sods who are on the receiving end. No mercy is shown.

Terry, just curious but do you typically travel to all these places alone? I have done for many years and never experienced any threats or violence. This just shows that even if you go somewhere with a friend, anything can happen.

A very sad state of affairs. But then again, we really don't know the entire story, do we?

Their downfall started before the confrontation with the gang : It was being in a bar with lowlife locals in the first place

I'd say 80 % of my travels are Solo.

Thing is I'm very aware that when in someones elses country is not a top idea to get pissed up in a pub and get into conflict with locals. One will never win.

That said, I'd never do it back in Perth either as one could quite easily get shanked there also, happened plenty of times and getting worse.

Hey, But these where young guys and young guys tend to be less tuned in EH.

Seems the perps have all been arrested and have admitted their offence which carries the death penalty. They picked a quarrel with the two in a local bar prompting the victims to leave the premises on foot. However, the locals pursued them in a car and attacked with knives, killing them.

The assailants have previous convictions for drug dealing and robbery and were believed to be under the influence of crystal meth on the night of the unprovoked attack.

The thing is, when Johnny Nignog is permitted to socialize with decent white folk his innate inferiority gets the better of him and when in drink or drugs he simply defaults to his natural barbaric state and acts accordingly.

Happens all the time in Britain among the untermensch and immigrant youths who often inflict senseless violence upon innocent victims. I believe it's inevitably a consequence of poor upbringing, stupidity and an inability to express themselves in a manner other than the puerile and violent.

A few years back working offshore I went to Miri for a few days respite and the first night in front of me in a nightclub an American guy had a bottle hammered into his head from behind so I thought time for me to leave, I think he had provoked someone but even so..?
Hope he survived but Borneo is/was a place to stay under the radar.
