Four people were shot dead in the compound of a school in Chiang Yai district of Nakhon Si Thammarat province this morning.
The victims were identified by police as Kriangkrai Chumthong, Somchai Homkhao, Thawat Buakamthong and Preecha Iadkaew.
Police said that Kriangkrai was on bail on charges of the murder two years ago of the family Tambon Khao Chumthong mayor and the case was still pending with the court.
Police assumed that the victims and at least three assailants had a meeting to discuss probably some conflict at the school as bottles of whisky and glasses were found at the scene.
The victims, said police, were always armed but on today they were however disarmed by the assailants.
After the failed meeting, the assailants opened fire at the four victims with an assortment of weapons, including an M16 assault rifle, said the police.
