US$100 a pop prostitutes do have choices. The murder victim had choices. He would not have starved if he hadn't solicited the gay marine. He had a boyfriend.

Of course, it does help your presentation if you cut out the parts of my post that say that. Because.....i'm not agreeing with you. So kindly don't declare yourself the winner.

Moog: Have you ever been to the Philippines? Unless I'm wrong, you don't live in Thailand, and you certainly don't live here.

    Yes, many times Davis.

And whilst I know that poverty is rife and, as Chassamui says, the place is a basket case for losers, I also know that the contention that the 'only option' for people is to prostitute themselves at 20 times the average daily wages is completely far-fetched.

There are millions of girls in the Philippines who would rather work for a small sum than prostitute themselves. To claim the opposite is patently untrue.

There is also a difference between the ladyboys who service the American fleet, or Burgos Street hookers servicing bankers, versus the sex slaves in casas - whose plight really is desperate.

For those reasons, I do not think the temporary absence of the US fleet should result in such howls of outrage !

I can see no evidence of any such claims.

You appear to be alone in your outrage over this.
It's simple paragmatism, not as you seem to think, a diplomatic pissing contest.

Moog. OK. I certainly don't want to turn this thread into a "why prostitutes become prostitutes" thread - if you wish to start another thread on that topic, I will be glad to contribute my thoughts.

Not to have the last word, but simply to clarify, when a ship visit takes place, and thousands of sailors and marines come ashore for a few days, their liberty dollars are spread across a huge range of venues - restaurants, bars, shopping, taxis, etc, etc. Only a very small percentage go with prostitutes. The cancellation of nine ship visits will have a very negative impact on Olongapo, less on Manila, and little to none on the rest of the country.

Meanwhile, back on track, no new news as yet today. Nothing on yesterday's ocular inspection of the murder scene. A couple of fairly balanced editorials, but all bemoaning the fact that the defense continues to refuse to surface Pemberton.

I can see no evidence of any such claims.
The fact that tens of millions of Filipina (and Thai) girls ARE working for small sums and do not choose to prostitute themselves for potentially higher rewards is evidence.

Get your facts straight Moog. I see no evidence of anyone claiming there are not millions of girls working for small sums.
You are arguing with yourself here.

At 2PM today, the military filed a complaint before the Philippine Bar calling for scum lawyer Roque to be disbarred. I previously reported that this had been done yesterday, but the blog I was reading jumped the gun.

Roque, who has done absolutely everything in his power to make this murder case an indictment of the VFA, had the gall to claim that the charges of the military against him were "intended to deflect attention from this murder trial".

Fat cocksucker just continues to amaze............

They can bemoan till the cows come home.

There is absolutely no benefit to Pemberton to "surface". His legal defense team will do their job which is to advocate the case for their client. The only actions allowed will be legally required and/or perceived as beneficial for their client in their judgment.

Davis: Is Pemberton currently charged with "murder"? Did not his defense team request reduction of charges to manslaughter and was any action taken on the request?

    Thanks.

The preliminary investigation is still ongoing. He has not yet been charged with any crime.

    Quiet.

The ocular inspection of the bar and hotel room scenes, which was to have been on Monday, is being done today.

Scum lawyer Roque is out of the country, but says he will file a counter-suit against the Army for "graft" - mo details provided.

Jeff's birthday was marked by a quiet family celebration.

Prosecution team, defense team, some US Navy reps, and star witness "Barbie" viewed the bar and hotel room today. Prosecution said it was to corroborate witness statements, but said they had no idea of how it would impact on the case.

"Barbie", supposedly in "Witness Protection" was also present - he attended over protests from the defense team.

And the preliminary investigation chugs along.

Ocular inspection just performed now? More than 2 weeks since the murder. Hope the room was well secured or a lot of evidence could have been manipulated or contaminated.

^The bar was never secured; the hotel room was secured for part of the day after the murder only. CSI Olongapo leaves a bit to be desired.

Prosecution made a number of really stupid comments about the ocular, leading me to wonder if they really have a clue. They claim Pemberton will give up DNA and fingerprints tomorrow - locale unknown.

Prosecution expects it to be three more weeks before they conclude the preliminary investigation and file charges.

Kind of seemed to me that all the witnesses and evidence were all discovered on day one - two weeks ago. What they plan to do for another three weeks escapes me.

DNA and prints are being done today at Pemberton's detention trailer in Camp Aguinaldo. Two prosecutor team members will be present. Tests will be observed by defense and US Navy personnel.

Now they can no longer say they haven't seen him.

Can't imagine what the prosecution intends to do over the next THREE WEEKS of the preliminary.

The Olongapo business community, meanwhile, has petitioned the court to have the trial moved to the Manila Courts, as it is "destroying their local economy". This would make a certain amount of sense logistically, as Pemberton is being held in Manila, and Olongapo is several hours away.

Prosecution has now requested Pemberton appear in a line-up so that "Barbie", supposedly in "witness protection" while appearing daily, can identify him as the last person seen with his buddy Jeff.

This is becoming idiotic. The prosecution (fat scum lawyer Roque's team of legal wizards) now want "Barbie" to be present at the DNA/fingerprint session so that he can verify the collection is being taken from Pemberton, and not some ringer the CIA has slipped into the trailer.

Social network site comments are laughing at the antics - "how stupid are these people?" - where did they find these idiots? Are they real lawyers?", etc.

They now also want to include the hotel bellboy in the circus.......crew of Pemberton's ship will be the next request.

The Olongapo prosecutor's office turned down the request by slime lawyer Roque's team of retards to have "Barbie" present for the DNA/fingerprint testing.

    He's (Barbie) home sulking.......

Story totally dropped off of all the news sites today. I suspect things will be quiet for a bit until the joke of a prosecution team finally gets around to filing charges.

Unless slimeball lawyer Roque comes up with some new circus acts.

Slimeball lawyer Roque is back. Filed contempt charges against the Army Chief of Staff for having the nerve to file a case against him. Also filed a couple of graft charges. Presumably, these will be thrown out as attention-seeking nuisance suits.

In economic news, the US 7th Fleet today indefinitely suspended liberty calls to any Filipino ports for all US ships. Ouch and Merry Xmas!

A Visiting Forces Agreement covers the conduct of foreign troops visiting a country, and is negotiated between the host country and the country with troops visiting.

A Status of Forces Agreement is essentially the same, but is used in countries where foreign troops will be visiting, but are also stationed permanently - for the US, Japan and S. Korea spring to mind.

The US has VFA or SFA agreements with any number of countries - as do many other nations.

As to where the 7th Fleet will do shore leave, I've no idea - Thailand and Hong Kong spring to mind as possibilities.

The 7th Fleet will continue to put into Philippine ports for repairs and the like, but no liberty will be granted.
