^ Agree. Not only that but their livelihoods are threatened by their actions. Anyone other than family would probably be happy to talk if they knew.

Police chief believe Asian killers still on Koh Tao

National police chief Pol-General Somyot Poompanmoung said Saturday that police had certain clues that the suspects were Asian men, whom he said he was "confident" that remained on the island in the one-week-old crimes.
Somyot made an inspection visit to Koh Tao Saturday, when police investigators simulated the crimes on a few scenarios - the attackers followed the victims from the bar, the attackers randomly selected their preys, and chose the victims, and their tracks to the scene and to run away after the attack.

TD has this all wrong. The BIB are one of the worlds elite police forces... They are just going though the motions of looking bewildered and incompetent, in order to make the criminals feel smug and confident. The BIB know that in time they will give themselves away, by getting drunk and shooting their mouths off.... FBI, Scotland Yard..and all those kinds of outfits....pfffft..

on the other hand they may be just dragging out the story until everybody loses interest, so they can get back to harassing schoolgirls on motorbikes, without helmets.....

Should have brought in an american Indian to track them back to their hideout. No joke.Unless of course they covered their tracks as they scampered off in the sand. SorryI forgot it were boatmen they're after.Really sad these bumblers.

Thai media reporting they have arrested a 23 year old drug addict suspected of killing the two British backpackers. He was hiding in a cave.

Correction....they found a homeless guy living in a cave and took his DNA for testing.

The reason no doubt officer useless said "hmmm we think he is still here" is that the negotiations with the lads mummies has come to a standstill for them to be allowed to get away with it, so to speed up negotiations, he is sending them a public reeminder to cough up the cash the dirty cops are demanding.

Clearly, you have no understanding of what it means to live on a Thai island. Clannish, parochial and utterly insulated from government other than its own.

In UK terms think of Anglesey.

    Laughable.

Remember when the Phuket chief of police said that Lee Aldhouse was still on the island, and there is no escape, etc, etc, after he murdered the marine (Longfellow)? At that point, Aldhouse was halfway to Heathrow.

BIB must be really pissed off with the international media glare, all they wanna do is saaaaaaaaaaaleep.

Remember the other "biggest manhunt in Phuket history" when the farang bloke they were looking for (who'd battered his farang girlfriend to death) had spent the night on Patong beach covered in blood, and when he walked into the police station to give himself up, they told him to sit down because they didn't know what he wanted?

    Thick as shit that lot.

    More from BBC.com

The article is mainly family stuff, but towards the bottom they state:

"Police have been made aware of reports that Hannah and David had a fight in a bar with a Thai man before they were killed, but cannot confirm if they are true."

I suspect that if it was someone 'connected' it will be increasingly difficult to keep a lid on. As others have said, it's a small island community where there are few secrets. At some stage someone will talk.
    ....

BBC News - Hannah Witheridge's family 'broken' by murder in Thailand

    Witheridge family 'broken' by murder
    Last updated 6 hours ago

The family of murdered British tourist Hannah Witheridge say they are "broken" by her death.

In a statement, they said they visited Bangkok earlier this week and had now returned to the UK with her body.

Ms Witheridge, 23, and fellow Briton David Miller, 24, were found dead on the Thai island of Koh Tao on Monday.

The BBC's Jonathan Head says Thai police suspect two different samples of DNA taken from Ms Witheridge's body are from two Asian men.

The Witheridge family said in their statement: "As a family we feel enormous relief to have Hannah back at home where she belongs.

"We continue to work closely with officers to assist in the investigation and bring those responsible to justice.

"Our family is broken and require time to grieve in private - as do Hannah's many friends."

They added that with the support of "fantastic" police family liaison officers, they will make further statements "when we feel able".

Police in Thailand has also said they are investigating new evidence suggesting the murders may have taken place because of "sexual jealousy".

Police Colonel Kissana Phathanacharoen said: "We have discovered fresh evidence which could lead to a new suspect who may have had a relationship or one night stand with Hannah or one of her friends or David the night before they were killed.

"We have asked the Metropolitan Police to go back and make enquiries of Hannah's friends on this matter.

"No lines of inquiry can be ruled out and we believe these crimes could have been motivated by sexual jealousy.

"Police have been made aware of reports that Hannah and David had a fight in a bar with a Thai man before they were killed, but cannot confirm if they are true."

According to post-mortem examinations, Ms Witheridge, from Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, died from head wounds while Mr Miller, from Jersey, was killed by severe blows to the head and drowning.

A bloodstained garden hoe, believed to be the murder weapon, was found nearby.

Thai police are offering a reward of about £4,000 for information leading to arrests, and some 150 officers have been deployed on the island.

Senior police officials met with Ms Witheridge's family during their trip to Bangkok.

I suppose they will return to DNA testing farangs getting off of planes at Swampy at the start of their holidays, just in case it was one of them.

However, the fact that the two of them were seen arguing with a local lad earlier in the night is most likely at the root of this. So many times a Thai man (singular) who feels his honour has been insulted, has gone and got some friends to "teach the farang a lesson". The fact he was hanging about a bar means that someone will know who it is, he is likely local to the area, and probably connected to the chickenheads who are pretending to investigate it.

    From the BP article

Surat Thani police commander Pol Maj Gen Kiatipong Khaosam-ang said a man caught by a surveillance camera near the crime scene was a worker at an entertainment place and the supervisor of a suspect whom...

If the BIB intentionally tried......they couldn't be more stupid and incompetent than what they already are.

BIB now making noises about the girl sleeping around with local Thai scum. Once again, not a shred of evidence to back this up.

This has been a pathetic showing by the Thai police from the beginning. I weep for the parents of these two kids having to read the crap which is published each day.
