Nakhon Ratchasima police have smashed a big motorcycle theft gang, arresting eight suspects, including four minors, and recovering 20 stolen motorcycles and many motorcycle parts.
The crackdown of the gang followed many complaints from motorcyclists that their motor bikes had been stolen. A police team was set up to investigate the case until police finally knew that the stolen motorcycles had mostly been sold to street racers in Soong Nern and See Khiew districts of Nakhon Ratchasima.

A sting operation was hatched and undercover policemen were sent to approach the gang asking to buy one motorcycle at 5,000 baht. The bike was due to be delivered to the buyer at a bypass road on Sunday.

When Kittipong Kitthaveevanich, one of the eight suspects arrested by the police, showed up at the rendezvous with a motorcycle, police then made the arrest. Kittipong’s confession led police to the garage where stolen motorcycles were kept or disassembled.

Kittipong allegedly admitted that he and his gang members had stolen more than 50 motorcycles and most of them were sold to street racers at between 2,000-5,000 baht each depending on their conditions.

Money from the sale of the stolen bikes and parts were used to buy drugs for sharing among them or used for night-life entertainment.
