Where is that photo from? Doesn't look like an ATR-42... Note the difference in the engine nacelles and the clearances around the spinner. ¼Å¡Òäé¹ËÒÃÙ»ÀÒ¾â´Â Google ÊÓËÃѺhttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e1/ATR42.JPG

    bit of an update
The flight recorder of the Lao Airlines plane that crashed into the Mekong River near Pakse airport in Champassak province on Oct 16 has been located, Sommat Phonsena, Lao Minister for Public Works and Transport, said on Monday.
Mr Sommat said divers were trying to retrieve the black box from the river, after it was located by the search team.
A report said one of the bodies yet to be identified might be that of Thai victim, Veekij Busarawuthanu.
Rattanamanee Khounewong, Deputy Minister of Public Works and Transport, said Lao Airlines would initially pay US$5,000 to the relatives of each of the Thai victims and provide air transport to deliver their bodies to their hometowns in Thailand.
Relatives of three of the Thai victims - Phakkawat, Kanueng and Veekij - said they had demanded $500,000 compensation each from Lao Airlines.
The bodies of two other Thai victims and PTT employees - Yanyong Apa-anant and Niphon Chaichanasakuldee - have not been recovered.

    RIP to the victims.

The armchair experts have given their opinion[s],... for what they are worth.
I too may have one or two hunches, but let's quieten down and see what the flight and voice recorders say.

    This may be the ATR:

Thanks Eire for the manifest. We have friends from Australia traveling in Laos at the moment and had a few moments of worry. Condolences to the families of all those on board.
Saw our friends today and they were actually scheduled to fly on that ill-fated flight. Visa delays required them to fortunately stay another day. They aren't in the mood to travel for a while after that close call and we are glad to have them back in the 'hood.

Well they found the black box so maybe the info will help stop it from happening again

Search teams on Thursday recovered the flight data recorders of a Lao Airlines plane that plunged into the Mekong River in bad weather killing all 49 people on board, officials said.
The black boxes, which include both voice and data recordings, were found early Thursday as part of efforts to recover parts of the stricken craft from the river’s fast-flowing waters, according to Yakua Lopankao, director general of Laos’ Department of Civil Aviation.
“It has not yet been decided where to send them to be examined, it is up to the air accident investigation committee,” he said of the operation, which has been assisted by experts from the French aviation safety agency BEA.
