Phuket Wharves Murder Victim Beaten, Slashed, Finger Cut Off

PHUKET: The body of a man who appears to be a murder victim was fetched from the water at a Phuket pier today.

The man had been severely beaten and may have been tortured, although police were not speculating about how he met his fate.

Workers at Rassada Pier, adjoining Phuket City, spotted the body in the water about 8am.

On lifting the man to shore, it was revealed that he had been wearing a red t-shirt and dark shorts. A purse in a pocket contained 10 baht in coins.

There was no other ID. The man could have been in the water for as long as two days, police said.

The man, aged 30 to 35, had been slashed with a sharp object from behind one ear to his cheek.

Cut wounds had also been inflicted on both his shoulders. His left eye was severely damaged.

Both his arms had multiple fractures and one finger had been cut off.

Police believe the man could be a Burmese or Indonesia seaman who fell into dispute with others in the karaoke district near the fish factories and wharves.

His unidentified body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City. Lieutenant Jariyawat Tenchern of Phuket City Police Station is handling the investigation.
