The police on these islands are inbred straw chewing bumpkins and one cannot hope for or expect western style of investigations or sample taking to occur.

As usual, all will be swept under the carpet asap and no soiling of thailands reputation as a safe and wondrous tourist destination will be allowed to take place.

Parents will weep, friends will wail, facebook pages will be inundated with meaningless grief, sombre candlelit vigils will be held, and armchair investigators will speculate, but the thai penchant for obfuscation, denial and deceipt will, as always, triumph in the end.

Tax, am I right in thinking your recent trip to the sceptered isle has reminded you just how dreadful this place truly is?

Never mind, another 3 months and you'll slip back into that reverie of obfuscation, dissembling and evasion.

This is what I mean. Deaths like this are probably more common than we think....they are just usually swept under the carpet. Particularly amongst Thai people.

These deaths haven't been swept under the carpet. They've been plastered all over the media, just as the Thai poisoner killer was, the Thai hit-and-runs, the Thai gang sword/gun muggings and outright warfare, the Thai highway carnage, the Thai shoot-em-ups in karaoke bars, etc etc

What is being swept under the rug is a proper investigation of these deaths.

Like I said, if Aluminum Phosphide was truly being used to kill bedbugs then we would

    1) see many more deaths from it and
    2) not see a ridiculously high percentage of Western women as victims in a country where it is perhaps 80% male tourists.

Thailand need not be dreadful at all, in fact for most of the time it is wonderful. Choose your friends carefully, avoid the drunks and take advice from decent thais, and trouble should be a stranger.

Deaths like the poisoning are rare but could occur anywhere, read the uk press and see just how many innocents are killed and maimed everyday as a result of someones malice or incompetence, even with over the top health and safety laws in place and the ridiculous lengths that the police go to to investigate some crimes, only to have the case thrown out before it even gets to court. No shortage of pol,ice and council stupidity either, and they can equal or beat the thais for levels of absurdity.

Service in thailand can be a joke sometimes due to the poor training and low initiative of the staff, but if you have ever spent forty minutes on hold to virgin media or any other uk company, and then been asked for passwords and personal details before being allowed to make the simplest request, you would see that the thai ways, with their innocent naivety of what service exactly entails are far superior to the officious, inflexible box ticking rigidity that infects any and every transaction in this frustrating country.

I am in the uk now, and missing thailand intensely. The easygoing chaos, the friendliness of most of the social exchanges and the sheer attractiveness of the people.

The ugliness and obesity that surrounds me on the streets here is nauseating, the streets of the town centre are awash with fat freaks, strange looking youth with facial piercings and frightening stares, and worst of all, decrepit poverty stricken pensioners with crooked backs and thirty year old raincoats, lined puffy faces and gloomy sunken eyes, hobbling into and out of the pound stores carrying ripped plastic shopping bags, admittedly I am in an ugly northern town, and the leafy suburbs where I am billeted are quite pleasant, but as soon as my obligations here have been undertaken I shall head off for the countryside, and no country on earth can beat the english at countryside.

Sounds like a right shit-hole where you live.

I don't recall the last time people checked into a holiday resort or hotel in the UK and died in mysterious circumstances, but it happens all the time you say.
Is that just where you live? Or are the press in the UK covering up all the deaths..
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

    Based on some updates,

A foreign man accompanied each of them individually to their rooms as they were in need of assistance.

Before this they were dancing at a club with the Scots woman.

The foreign man left in the morning.

These are based on CCTV recording from local news sources.

I guess we can assume they had something to consume at said club. We can rule out any issues with the room if these new updates are true.

I guess we can assume they were poisoned either intentionally or unintentionally.

When people have their drinks spiked, how do the victims make it out of the establishments? They are helped by supposed friends. People who appear to be with them.

The friend they were dancing with does not look 24ish. The friend reminds me of a 30ish person with an interest in traveling people.

In my other post which many thought was a troll post,

was really just a few examples of how some of these gangs operate, to give an example without going into too many details.

Another example I offer is one of the many times they have tried to spike my drink. I was in a club watching live music. I see two Africans walk in. I was sitting in an alcove to the side of the stage. I had a drink on the table to my right. A 30ish guy walks in and sits to my right next to my drink. I move my drink to the table on my left. He gets up and walks by me to the other side next to my drink on my left. I move my drink back to the table on my right. He turns around and looks back and signals to the Africans at the back. I get up and go to the bar and pay my bill and leave.

This guy was not too dissimilar to the Brit guy in Brokendown Palace - the Thai movie about getting girls to carry drugs. He was the type of guy that would be able to pick up girls easily and not bring any suspicion onto himself.

If you are wondering why there has been a flurry of busts recently, well I am not the only one pushing for it. There are many people who have complained and demanded action. Things are only beginning.

Autopsy on Canadian tourist sisters available in 2 weeks

Autopsy on Canadian tourist sisters available in 2 weeks

    วันพุธ ที่ 20 มิ.ย. 2555

BANGKOK, June 20 - The autopsy of two Canadian sisters found dead last in an Andaman Sea tourist resort hotel room will be released within two weeks, according to Ramathibodi Hospital's Forensic Department.

Noemi and Audrey Belanger, aged 26 and 20, were found dead by a room attendent on the tourist resort island of Phi Phi in Krabi province last Friday.

Police chief Pol Gen Wicharn Priewnim said the autopsy yesterday took three hours, with samples of tissue and blood being taken.

Krabi police initially believed the two girls had been dead for at least 12 hours when their bodies were found and that they may have been the victims of a toxic substance.

No evidence of murder was discovered, but personal items and Ibuprofen tablets of 400 grammes were found.

Gen Wicharn said the girls' bodies were now available to the family for religious ceremonies. (MCOT online news)

Thai cops look for man in probe of Quebec tourist deaths

    QMI AGENCY

Thai police are looking for a Portuguese man in their investigation of the mysterious deaths of Quebec sisters Noemie and Audrey Belanger, QMI Agency has learned.

A source in the Asian country says surveillance video at a hotel on Phi Phi island shows a man leading the women to a room. The source says the women appeared to be ill in the video.

A maid discovered the bodies Friday morning on the popular tourist island after the sisters failed to answer their door for several days.

Thai officials quickly ruled out foul play and the bodies were sent to the police medical examiner's office in Bangkok for autopsies.

Their uncle, Eric Belanger, said autopsies were performed on Tuesday but the results won't be known for several weeks.

In the meantime, the sisters' bodies are expected to be put on a plane Thursday and sent back to their hometown of Pohenegamook, Que., about three hours northeast of Quebec City.

Eric Belanger said the return of the bodies is "bittersweet" and he thanked Canadian embassy officials for handling the matter quickly.

A second autopsy will be performed on the bodies once they're returned to Canada.

A Thai doctor who briefly examined the Belanger sisters said this week he believes they might have died after eating toxic mushrooms or potentially deadly puffer fish.

Why do they keep mentioning the Ibuprofen? Surly they are not going to claim that had anything to do with it?

the 'americanmushrooms.com website says death cap mushhrooms are not to be found in Thailand but Thais and other Asians living in America mistake them for a Thai look-a-like and die.

"Most victims of life-threatening mushroom poisoning in North America are people from Southeast Asia—Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Viet Nam. They apparently mistake Death Caps for edible "Paddy-Straw" (Volvariella volvacea) mushrooms. The two are similar in several ways—cap color, size, and the white "cup" around the base of the stalk—but different in others (for example, the Paddy-Straw has a pink spore print, the Death Cap a white spore print; and the Death Cap has a partial veil). The Paddy Straw mushroom occurs in tropical and temperate areas worldwide, and is especially common in Southeast Asia; the Death Cap, alas, does not occur in Southeast Asia, so folks from that part of the world are unaware of the lethal "look-alike."
Okay...not a doctor...in fact no qualifications to add anything but unintelligent drivel really.

However, Destroying Angel (Amanita virosa) has been reported in parts of Thailand and caused death but I think this is more North and NE rather than South of BKK.
The deaths of a family in the North through mushroom poisoning reported in BP earlier this month and posted in a thread looked very much like confusing the Death Cap (or close relative to Amanita phalloides) with the "Goose Egg" mushroom. However, the symptoms released do not fit in with the generic symptoms for this type of poisoning (renal/liver failure).

I have to add the caveat that the symptoms released by the press are not facts and are probably not inclusive of all symptoms that were found.

Puffer fish? I don't think it can be ruled out completely. The symptoms of paralysing the muscles would explain why they did not call for help in some way...but I have a feeling that the effects are so well documented that it would have been identified as the cause pretty quickly.

What bothers me is why the autopsy took so long to perform....

No way am I going to offer a likely cause based on the reports so far....

PS ...SD post#161...the girl on the left is a spitting image of my first girlfriend (35 years ago)...It kind of hit me...way too young to get ill let alone die....A really lovely looking girl that brought back a lot of memories in an instant....

It should have said milligrams. a 400 gram pill would weigh almost half a kilo.

They are probably trying to deflect attention by mentioning it. Ibuprofen can't kill suddenly. But if these women were poisoned with warfarin (rat poison) then Ibuprofen could potentiate the warfarin. But warfarin is an unlikely suspect since it takes 24 hours or longer to cause bleeding irregularities and you have to eat ounces and ounces of the stuff for an acute (sudden) exposure.

Can someone post a picture of this Portugese guy?

And doesn't the statement that he was seen coming out of their room the next morning mean this guy was in the room with them while they were dying a violent, prolonged death?

May (but not necessarily) have a fishy or garlic odor:
I said Aluminum Phosphide came in 'wafers'. It is actually chalky white or brown tablets. And they only weigh 3 grams each. Each tablet can give off 1 gram of phosphine gas and since the lethal INGESTED dose is 150 milligrams for a 70kg person, that means one of these little tablets is enough to kill 6 people. Or, said another way, just a fraction--a bit torn off from one tablet--is enough to kill a couple of people. Or to make sure the job is done, 'sprinkle' a couple of tablets in food or drink.
    http://www.jkscience.org/archive/vol...0phosphide.pdf

In India sold as Alphos, Celphos, Quickphos, Phostek, Phosfume and Synfume, Fumino.
    In Morocco as Phostoxin.

Would be very interesting to know if one of the India brands is sold in Thailand or do they have their own version?

Guyinthailand....your murder hypothesis now has more credibility after the case of the acid-squirting cleaner caught in BKK. Some people have a lot of resentment bottled up.
The Portuguese guy was with them while they were vomiting and shitting ? Gets odder. Unless he really was a good samaritan, who finally didn't want to get involved.

And these two guys who just stabbed in the heart and killed an Australian woman walking in Phuket don't sound like they like women very much either:

''We were walking single-file along the road, coming back from dinner. These guys had gone past a couple of times, and that started to bother us," the woman told tourism news website Phuket Wan. 'Then I heard a noise behind me and I turned to see what I thought was my friend being pushed in the chest. I tried to help her. The men rode off, empty-handed. We started walking again, and only then did we realise we'd both been slashed.''

Once settled I'm sure you would regain your perspective and come to accept your kith and kin as quite normal. Nevertheless, I do think you are being a tad harsh on your countrymen although I must concede Northern folk can be quite challenging to the eye. I suppose it's because of their congenital dependence on deep fried battered stodge for sustenance more than anything else but I do grant you, they do bear a resemblance to Ukrainian peasant folk on a wet and windy November day.

But you must compare like with like. Your grubby Northern town and its horrendous looking denizens may well be cast into the shade when one recalls the parade of lovelies milling about Siam Paragon or Emporium. But, what about the precincts of the bus station in Nakhon Nowhere during the rainy season when the detritus of ghastly rural squalor collects in all its gap toothed, betel stained lumpen glory, squawking, spitting and shrieking in their ragged garb, stomping about litter strewn, pot -holed sois, all bandy legged and scarred from stupidity, escorted by the inevitable pack of mangy curs and filthy peddlars of plastic gewgaws?
