Phuket Resort Owner Stabbed in Pub in Wrong Part of Town

PHUKET: A prominent young Phuket resort owner was stabbed at 4am today in an altercation in a pub in Phuket City, police have confirmed.

It is believed the victim, son of a wealthy Bangkok family, was initially treated at Bangkok Hospital Phuket in Phuket City.

Staff at Bangkok Phuket declined to reveal officially today whether the man had been treated or admitted.

The man is thought to have suffered two knife wounds to the stomach. Reports of the violent altercation first emerged from Bangkok.

The stabbing took place at Rassada Pub in the Poonpol entertainment area of Phuket City. Poonpol is the somewhat seedy district where the staff of nighttime venues in and around Phuket City usually go to unwind after official closing hours.

Police in Phuket City were today interviewing all of the staff at the pub. The stabbed man went to the pub with four friends, police have been told.

Others who know about the early-morning venues also visit Poonpol, which is gradually being gentrified from its seedier era. Poonpol is also home to a notorious red-light street.

The resort owner, aged 30, is well-known as a fun-loving host who throws spectacular parties and has guided the development of the southern Phuket resort as a popular haunt for hi-so local and international guests, as well as visitors from Bangkok.

He recently posted a message on Phuketwan's Facebook page saying: ''You really are a real bunch of boring + negative people!!! There r so many positive thing to write about the island. So sad the u are not able the see the good side of life!!! U should go there living some where eles''

The man completed his education in the US and is also a well-regarded chef and cooking teacher.

I wonder if he regards living on Phuket in such a positive light now he has a couple of permanent scars (souvenirs) from a night out in the red light district?

Sri Panwa Managing Director Stabbed in Bar

    UPDATE : 5 January 2012

The general manager of a luxury resort in Phuket is out of critical condition after sustaining stab wounds in a brawl outside a Phuket Town nightclub early yesterday morning.

Meanwhile, the culprits were identified as waiters employed by the bar, have surrendered to the police.

Yesterday, 31 year-old Vorasit Issara, commonly known by his nickname as Plawan, is the managing director of the Sri Panwa property development and a luxury resort and hotel in Phuket.

He was apparently out with a group of friends at the Rachada night club in the Phoonpol area last night.

A fight broke out at 4 AM while the cause of the brawl was unknown.

Vorasit was stabbed in the stomach and back, forcing him to undergo an emergency surgery immediately at the Bangkok Hospital in Phuket.

However, Vorasit is currently reportedly out of critical condition and is under close supervision from the doctors.

Meanwhile, the two culprits, both employed as waiters of the bar have surrendered to the police.

They initially admitted to stabbing some people in the bar during the brawl as well, but could not recall who they were.

The culprits added that they had to defend themselves, as it was too chaotic.

Nevertheless, police have filed charges against these two culprits and that the case is now under investigation.

    In another case UPDATE
The Russian man and the tuk-tuk driver both failed to turn up on Saturday for a scheduled mediation session, said an officer at Kathu Police Station, which oversees Patong. ''It seems they are both happy to forget the dispute,'' he said.

I don't believe the waiters story about self defence..... there is no photo of him holding up his tea shirt with his girlfriend pointing at the invisible cratch the received from the victim.

the story may well be a beat up to try and garner attention for a hollywood circlejerk

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol actor Jeremy Renner was reportedly injured in a bar brawl involving a rotor axe, metal pipes, wooden clubs and a table leg in Phuket, Thailand, according to sources. The fight left two men in serious condition, and led to the arrest of six others.
Reports say that Renner and a pal, Vorasit Issara, the manager of a Thai luxury resort, were bar hopping with four friends into the wee hours of the night in the beach town.
They ended up at the Rachada Pub where Mr Issara threw a glass and agitated the bar staff, according to the Phuket News.
In a scene that sounds more like a movie than reality, six men allegedly attacked Mr Issara and several of Renner's friends. Reports say that 20 people were involved in the brawl.
According to the Thai newspaper, Mr Issara was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition, after being hit in the neck with an axe and stabbed in the stomach. His chauffeur, Noppadon Preechawai, was also taken to hospital after being cut in the face. He is in stable condition as well.

Reports said that Renner's hand was injured in the ruckus and that he was treated at the hospital but Renner's rep says he was not injured.
Renner's rep told the Post that the Hurt Locker star was "not injured or involved" in the altercation, and that "he exited when the fight broke out." Renner is in Asia working on The Bourne Legacy in Manila, Philippines.
Six men have been arrested and will apparently be charged with attempted murder.
The men appeared at a press conference, with several confessing to taking part in the bloody brawl. The axe that hit Mr Issara was found hidden under a couch at the pub.

Six charged for Phuket resort GM stabbing - The Nation

Six charged for Phuket resort GM stabbing

The Nation, Phuket Gazette January 6, 2012 1:00 am

Hollywood actor Renner caught in brawl

Six staff members of the Carnala-Rachada Pub in Phuket Town have been arrested for allegedly stabbing and assaulting Sri Panwa Resort General Manager Vorasit Issara early yesterday morning and charged with attempted murder.

At a police conference, the six men are identified as Jarungsak Sawangkij, 29, from Krabi, Suriya Kraipian, 33, from Bangkok, Nareubate Tednok, 18, from Trang, Natthawut Kongplub, 19, from Surat Thani, and Suchart Palae, 26, and Wasan Poethong, 20, from Nakhon Sri Thammarat.

Phuket police said to the Gazette later that Hollywood actor Jeremy Renner, along with Vorasit's driver, Noppadon Preechawai, also suffered minor injuries in the melee. Yutthiphong Simngarm, a friend of Vorasit, has sustained cut wounds for covering Vorasit's body with his.

Provincial police chief Pol Maj General Chonasit Wattanavrangku said he would propose closing CarnalaRachada Pub, which has permit, for 60 days for operating beyond legal hours on Wednesday, when the brawl occurred.

The closure, when imposed, could be extended further if police found later that there were several brawls taking place previously. The incident has prompted police to be stricter with operating hours at all night entertainment venues throughout Phuket.

Provincial governor Tree Akkharadecha said there were around 200 venues operating without permits in addition to those 500 with permits. He did not say how come provincial authorities were aware of the number of those illegally at service but had not take action against them before the incident.

Also presented as evidence at the press conference were clothes worn by the suspects and the weapons they used, which included a variety of clubs and cutting instruments, including a homemade axe fashioned from a motorcycle brake rotor.

Chonasit said the fight started after 31yearold Mr Vorasit dropped a glass on the floor, but no further details were provided. Vorasit's main injuries were caused by Suchart, who stabbed him in the stomach, and Nareubate, who chopped at his neck with the rotor axe, the officer said.

He said that quick police action and arrests of the suspects had nothing to do with wealth and public image of Vorasit.

Vorasit remains in hospital with serious wounds to the stomach and partially severed neck tendons. He also suffered bruises to his entire body.

Renner stars in the current hit movie Mission Impossible 4 and was nominated for the Academy Award of Best Actor for his role in the critically acclaimed Iraq war movie The Hurt Locker.

A reliable source told the Gazette that Vorasit's party comprised his driver and four foreign friends, two women and two men.

The group went to the KorTorMor Pub near Nimit Circle, then another club near Royal Phuket City Hotel before they arrived at the Rachada Pub. Vorasit, who had been drinking, became embroiled in an argument with the bar staff before he was attacked, the source said.

The incident happened at around 4:30am, several hours past the mandatory closing time for bars.

Jeremy Renner not injured in bar brawl in Thailand, rep says

Posted 01/05/2012 12:24 PM PT by Corinne Heller

Jeremy Renner was not injured in a bloody bar fight in Thailand, despite recent reports, the actor's spokesperson says.

The Phuket Gazette reported that Renner, who turns 41 on Saturday, was drinking at a bar at the Sri Panwa Resort with General Manager Vorasit Issara, who at one point dropped his glass. This sparked a fight and several men stabbed Issara and attacked him in the neck with an axe, the report said, adding that six staff members were arrested and charged with attempted murder.

"Jeremy Renner was indeed in a bar in Phuket Thailand as a vicious attack on a patron took place but was not injured or involved," his spokesperson told OnTheRedCarpet.com on Thursday, January 5. "He exited as the fight took place and is currently in Manila shooting 'The Bourne Legacy.'"

Traveling from Manila, the capital of The Philippines, to Phuket, a popular tourist city located on an island in Thailand, takes two plane trips and a minimum of about four or five hours.

"The Bourne Legacy" is the first movie in the spy film series without Matt Damon playing the part of the title character and focuses on a new CIA operative, played by Renner. "The Bourne Legacy" also stars Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz and hits theaters in August 2012.

Renner, who has been nominated for Oscars for his performances in the films "The Town" and "The Hurt Locker," also appears in the fourth "Mission: Impossible" movie, "Ghost Protocol," which was released in December.

Renner told OnTheRedCarpet.com in February that Tom Cruise, who performed several death-defying stunts, taught him a lot

Renner also recently filmed "The Avengers." He plays Hawkeye, part of an extensive ensemble of superheroes, alongside actors such as Robert Downey Jr., who reprises his role as Iron Man, and Johansson, who slips back into her "Iron Man 2" catsuit to portray the Black Widow. "The Avengers" is set for release on May 4, 2012.

Jeremy Renner Beat Up in Thailand -- One Man Slashed with Axe

    Jeremy Renner
was attacked in Phuket, Thailand in an early morning bar brawl that left one man in serious condition after getting slashed in the neck with a rotor axe.

Thai authorities say Jeremy and his party had been bar hopping and ended up at the club where the violence broke out at 4:30 AM, after hours. One of the men in Jeremy's party -- Vorasit Issara, the General Manager of the Siri Panwa Resort -- dropped a glass on the floor and apparently that started the melee.

Six men -- who apparently worked at the bar -- then allegedly attacked Jeremy, Vorasit and the others in their party. In addition to being stabbed in the neck, Vorasit was stabbed in the stomach with a knife.

One source claims Vorasit was drinking and was in a heated argument with the bar staff immediately before the attack. The six men who attacked Jeremy's group were arrested.

    Jeremy suffered minor injuries.

8:15AM PT: According to his rep, Jeremy left the bar when the fight broke out ... and was not injured at all.
