To Russia with no visa (and back)

Russia and Thailand have confirmed their intention to introduce a visa-free entry for Russians to Thailand and for Thais to Russia, according to Russian media.

Mikhail Kamynin, official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said the agreement was made on the sidelines of last week's Apec meetings in Hanoi. Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Thai counterpart Nit Phibunsongkram made the deal, he said.

The agreement will take effect as soon as the parties have completed internal preparations, and the date will be specified later, Kamynin said.

What were they thinking?

It will be interesting to see how many days they are allowed on entry and what, if any, extension requirements they will have to deal with.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Thailand have a 'no visa' requirement for all countries? You get a landing tourist visa of 30 days when you get here anyway? All countries?

It use to be 40 or 41 countries that could get 30 days on arrival with no visa. Russia was not on the list.

Nope.
Some have Tourist Visa exemption which gives 30 days
Some have visa on arrival which gives 15 days
And some have no agreement

That's interesting, but judging by the hordes of Russians in Pataya and Jomtien, I thought they were also on 30 days.
