    Donating to the immigration fund...

Has anyone ever attempted to do what the local minivan-visa-runner-drivers do, and bribe an immigration dude at the kiosk? As in, I need to enter Thailand for three weeks or so after holidaying in Malaysia, via Sadao (overland where they only give a standard 2 week visa) - do you think if I slipped a 100bt note in with the passport and asked for a 3 week stamp, he'd do it?

Or would I be likely to get something else...?

Fuck that, every boarder police man has his price. Give it a shot. Being a bit of a cheap bastard with 100bt though.

Alright, 100bt might be too cheap. What does a week's extension cost on a 15 day VOA?

As much as you ridicule the question SS the real answer is NO. I know of many farang that work the farms with their wives. I know of guys that work in shops alongside their wives. I know of guys that work using the Internet and so it goes on. I even saw a farang in Pattaya, the other week, scouring the bins along Beach Road collecting recyclable material. This guy looked as if he'd been doing it for years and didn't look worried about being caught either.

Probably even monkey house's slop is better than whatever he can afford to eat with his recycling enterprise.

I agree, but nobody seems to worry about it. As I've said, I know of loads that work. I know of none, personally, that have been caught. The chances of getting caught, out in the sticks, is just about impossible.

Thought it might be a bit pricey to be legit.
I might not have time to go through the free visa embassy route, hence my question.
A visa exempt stamp? Not 1900 bt?

And then there's the poster who thinks Siam is free of corruption... but they've been here decades, of course.

    You'll get 15 days.

You can extend this for 7 days at an immigration office for 1,900b.

I don't believe there is any 3 week stamp. Entering the country you get either 15 days, 30 days, 60 days or 90 days depending on your visa, and in your case, a land border.

You can't just get them to give you the exact amount of days that you'll be here.

    Not for 100b anyway.

Overstay fines are 500b per day up to a max of 20,000b. You can pay this as you leave the country. Maybe this is more convenient to you than going to immigration, although why not just book a cheap flight and get 30 days. Not going to cost much more.

Thanks for the good info, but I'm just driving up with the Thai family to see the in-laws for crimbo and to have a 3 week break. If I have to pop down to the border and visit the duty-free to pick up some Christmas spirit to get another 15 dayer, then so be it. It's a last minute decision to go so I haven't the time to visit the embassy, plus it's by car or not at all...
Thanks for the up-to-date info, though. It's as it used to be - nothing seems to change, eh. Maybe one of these days I'll have more notice and can make use of the very fair free tourist visa!

A few years back I was waiting by the staff counter in Bkk airport. There were a bunch of other stand by pax, everyone waving their tickets in the air.
A german guy was called to the counter and ask to produce his passport and ticket.
I was right next to him and noticed how he had slipped a 500 baht note into the passport in order to bribe the checkin agent to provide him a seat.
The checkin agent was less than impressed, slammed the passport back on the desk and said to the german: "You go" while pointing towards the exit.
That guy sure didn`t get boarded on this particular checkin agent`s watch.

Tis always a risk... you have to decide if it's worth it... In my case, I guess not.
