What I initially thought. Then came across a post one another forum about this 1 week course and the test at the end.

Test being the most important bit. Pass the test and you have shown the basics.

Course wise - has to be from one level to another. Which means a full year of work. Not sure if the part time courses ar ethe same length or not. Missus is looking at a part time for the educational side not just the certificate.

ESOL Citizenship, Life in the UK Test - Life in the UK Test Leyton, Citizenship Test Training East London, IT Computer Courses Leytonstone, Web Design Services, Tuition for GCSE & A Level

These people do the 1 week thing. Tested by Edexcel I think.

So far as im aware, the courses are around 5hrs per week, covered over two days or nights. Courses start September, and the exams are in June and January. Mrs ast opted for nights as she was working full time as well. We could have gone the quicker route and taken the Life in the UK test, but as you said mrs was looking for the educational side too.

Personally can't be assed to get into a slanging match with the rodent. Still don't believe all the man has to say and I did post a link about NiNo's - remember?

Anyway, on ESOL, a lot of us were surprised to learn that there is indeed a 5 day course, that by-passes the usual schooling. It will be shut down at some stage and it appears its only available in one or two areas.

My missus studied EFL rather than ESOL, as that will be more beneficial in LOS. She did the Life in the UK test and passed okay. Its not just about memory, its about learning.

Nope. You could just keep renewing the FLR visa indefinitely, but, seeing as it costs a small fortune, and the prices keep rising well above inflation, I`d say its well within your/your wife's interest to pass the test. Ive seen the prices go up somewhere in the region of 50% since Mrs Ast came here.

I politley ask you how you managed this - seems so simple but I'm not convinced why it should work for me. It is the best option right now as I do not want to be spending my earnings without earning whilst waiting 3 months for the visa to be processed here.

Been married 2 years got a child together and a sponser with enough cash and accomadation space for my family.

    What else?

^I just put in the application as normal. They called back in a few days and the visa was ready for collection the following week.

For a settlement visa you can have sponsored accommodation, but you cannot be sponsored for cash, you have to have it in your name.

I went back first to get on a University course and as soon as I was on it and the funding was organised I applied for the wife's visa.

So a letter from a business owner stated clearly that I have work beginning at a certian date will suffice. I can arrange that for both me and my spouse.

Sound good. Did you fill out the forms yourself and provide the supporting documents and evidence of relationship? Where did you apply, Postal?

Yes, filled out the forms online and booked an appointment then sent the forms to my wife. You have to do a TB check as well, which can be booked by phone.

In terms of document, I loosely followed some information from ajarn as a a couple of posters from their have done it recently.

I have recently read all the info for a friend who's thinking the same as you. Pretty much you can get her in and she can work, but you have to prove pretty much that neither of you have to as you have plenty of cash. She may well need to have medical insurance.
Also speaking English will help, these visas last I think two years.

^ No health insurance necessary on a settlement visa

She is covered by the NHS the day she arrives.

speaking English is neither here nor there.

The last time we applied for a tourist visa we we're advised this could be a good extra that wasn't listed in the requirements. Got the wife a plan, not too expensive I think, submitted the application and showed the lady the policy, she didnt have a clue what it was and refused to take it!
The wife got pregnant while we were back, took her to the hospital and they refused to even look at it, they just treated her as a normal patient.

I know a man who went back to the UK, about eighteen months ago with no money ( I actually lent him money to pay his airfares) with his Thai wife and two children, with no job, but a letter of acceptance from Leeds University.

He did have accommodation with his parents.

She got her visa before they left (with no trouble) and they are doing great guns.

She started a nurses training course within three months of arrival.
