Pretty sure its an indefinite thing. Get your 60 day visa, once thats up, go to your local immigration and get a month extension, when that months up, do a step over any border and get another 60 days - 5 months in one hit, that'll do nicely.

    Penang Visa run

I'm getting a free 60 day visa in Canada, but before it expires I need to renew it for another 60 days... Is this possible in Penang & will it still be free the 2nd time?

Not possible in Penang at the moment I don't think, to be sure go to Laos. They are only free for a period of time, so depends when you will be getting it.

Can't you get a double entry tourist visa in the first place? Should be easy enough in Canada.

That means you get a 60 days visa and have the option of either extending it by 30 days at immigration or doing a quick border crossing into any country and getting another 60 days (also extendable by 30 days) when you come back in.

Well if you only need an extra 30 days on top of the 60 days visa, then yes.

Sure I can get a double entry visa here, but it's $70 cdn. I'm not really sure of my plans, but my first 60 day visa would expire Jan. 1st, which is a very awkward time. I'm getting a lot of conflicting info about being able to get a 60 day free visa in Penang, I only need about 2 more weeks, then I'm going to PI.

Are they not free in Canada too at the moment?

What day are you arriving here and what day are you leaving to PI?

I think the double tourist visa is going to be your best option.

Single TR visa is free, doubles are the normal price.
That's how it is done in Hull, no idea about Canada

30 day extension in Thailand at immigration is the way to go. If you only need an extra two weeks. $1900 baht for extention.

All extensions are 1900 baht as far as I know.

Where did you pay 500 baht and what sort of extension was it ?

I paid bt 500 at Nan Immigration for 30 day extension.
If its now bt 1,900 it would be a better deal to just leave the country.

    It was in January.2009

I have just found a form that says from April 2nd 2009. it is BT1,900.

I will be spending that money on a visa to a neighbouring country or a return train fare to Malaysia.

I think you have been lucky.

I get my extension from Nan every year and I have been paying 1900 baht for the past 4 (?) years

Why should I pay for a double entry visa or extension, when I can get another 60 day one for free. I've been told this is possible in Penang by two sources.

Because the extension is 1900 baht from any immigration office whereas the free tourist you have to go and get from a Thai Embassy or consulate.
