180 day Thai Non Immigrant Visa

I keep hearing rumours and whispers on this and wonder if it would work, so your in some country and you get your shiny new Single Entry Thai non immigrant visa, this has to be used within 90 days and you will be allowed to stay in Thailand without having to do anything immigration wise for 90 days, so lets say the day your new visa is issued is also the day you arrive back in Thailand, after 60 days you go to your local immigration office and get a re entry stamp for 1,900baht as you would do if you were on a yearly visa and wanted a holiday, after 80 days you leave the country but re enter before the 90 days expiry on utilization of your visa, in theory you would get another 90 days, would that happen in practise though?

So is a 1 year extension of stay, but you can get re entrys on them and also extend them year by year.

Also most people on yearly stays arrive on a single entry non immigrant visa and are only initially allowed to stay for 90 days, this they convert to yearly with 90 day reporting and generally get a re entry stamp so they can go on holidays or visit their home country without invalidating their visa status.

    Correct.

The re-entry stamp retains your original "Permission to Stay" you won't get a new one.

Yep, but you don't get another years visa when you return, so you wouldn't get another 90 days either.

    Good try.

^We shall see, I was told at the Thai embassy in Chicago this could be done, also I have a couple of friends going to Pattaya immigration tomorrow to see if it can be done, not sure where they heard it from, probably Laos as one of them just returned from there yesterday.

They are under the MFA and issue visa.
They know sweet FA and have no authority over immigration and "permission to stay"

I found out yesterday you can get a 60 day extension at immigration for the 90 day non O visa.
A neighbor has been getting Visas from Lao and before the 90 days is up gets it extended.
Every 150 days he departs Thailand and gets a new Non O in Lao.
