20K overstay - can you then come back to LOS?

Let's say you are on 20K max. overstay (let's say you have overstayed for 6 months or so).

Assuming you leave at the airport and pay the fine will you then be restricted from coming back to Thailand for a certain period?

Could you, for example, pay the fine then head to a nearby Thai embassy and get a Tourist Visa and re-enter in the next few days or weeks? Anyone know anybody that has done this (recently)?

Yes you can. You only get black-listed for criminal offences, not immigration offences.

^kind of makes the visa run thing a bit of a farce then.....my next run for TV will cost around 20K all in for only 3 months worth of stay..almost better off being on overstay for an extended period. (I am not planning this by the way)

    not farce , gamble .........

inside of IDC doesn't rate high on the star list and if your caught anywhere but the airport you stand a good chance of confirming that .

I know a bloke who was on a 9 month overstay, went to Mukdaharn immi payed his 20k left then went to the embassy and got a 3 month non-B visa no questions asked. Just as long as you have the money and don't get picked up before you get to immigration you will be ok. just exspect a little stick from the immi officer. And yes this was recently, we had a beer that afternoon in Mukdahan and a good laugh.

Yes you can come back, but the stamp is right there in your passport until you get it replaced. Immigration officers won't necessarily prevent you entering the country, but you will certainly not get the benefit of any doubt.

(Don't ask me how I know this.)

^ Don't worry it's not Thaivisa, you can admit to overstaying here.

Obviously a lot cheaper to stay as long as you want and pay the max amount (isn't it 25 k now?), but get caught beforehand and it's a fine and the IDC.

Big gamble, best not taking the chance.

I'd have preferred not to take the chance either, and it was the source of a great deal of stress until resolved. (582 days since you ask.)

It would be one hell of a gamble - the law could change with the wind and would happen very definatly and very fast if everybody did what you are considering.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's crossed many of our minds.

Does anyone know what to do if immigration make a cock up when you arrive in Thailand with a B visa and only give you 30 days instead of 90? Can you go to immigration in-country and get them to change it?

^ My friend always tells me to check they stamp the days in correctly, thought he was paranoid but always check mine anyway. Visit to BKK Immi probably easiest way to sort it out, doubt it's much of a problem.

I was told on a visa run last year that the immi officers get a percentage of every overstay fine they pick up. If that's true, I'm sure they wouldn't mind too much about people paying lump sum bonus' rather than through the system where they wouldn't get a cut.

    Might be complete bollocks though.
Some people think it don't, but it be.

I was under the impresion that the provisions of Section 54 of the immigration act had recently been amended and state that if a person has over stayed for 150 days or over then they may not re-enter Thailand until a further 150 days had expired from the date of exiting the country.

Well I just went through immigration and they said I had overstayed - I explained that I had visa and that they had only given me 30 days instaed of 90. The immigration lady smiled and let me through no problem.

I was only 6 days over the 30 they had given me though. This was also the business class priority immigration post and they tend to be nicer to you there.

Seeing as everything is down to the discretion of the Immigration Officer, in theory they don't make mistakes. So if they do short-change you by 60 days, it's tough titties.

Best policy is to check the stamp when you get your passport back - I nearly got caught a couple of times. I've been told they honour the entry stamp and not the visa so it's best to get it sorted immediately.

There is a desk at Suan Phlu Immigration set aside to correct "incorrect" entry stamps. Best to check when you get your passport back though.

My mate got 30 days on his non imm visa instead of the normal 90, he didn't notice the mistake, about 6 weeks later he books into a hotel in Bangkok on a Friday afternoon, had a lay down to prepare himself for a night of wild activity in Bangkok, immigration came knocking on his door, yep the lovely check in lady had grassed him up, gets locked up, eventually has a flight sorted out and they take him to the airport on Tuesday, yes he was locked up till Tuesday, how the immigration laughed at the mistake they had made as he paid his fine
