Well high up in the advice that came my way ( I've been dithering and faffing around for Years ) ...... many times people have sworn that an agent is the way to go .
No good me asking if I'm not going to listen .
And today I got an email directly telling me to go down this route . { Gotta say though - I agree with you . It's expensive . } This is what it said .....

He said --- " My agent in Pattaya says ---

    1. Enter Thailand on 30 Days Visa .
    2. The Agent will help you open an Account with Bangkok Bank . All paperwork and sort the Visa .
3.You pay 23 000 Baht first time and then 12500 every year .
    4. You need to report to Immigration every 90 days from entering the country ."

This is from my friend who has been doing it this way for years . I only have the one friend so I have to listen to him . But it does seem a bit pricey .

    Hi Wasp,
Ignore that "advice" from your friend. What they sent you is not relevant to you at all. It might be useful for someone who wants to stay in Thailand for years but perhaps can't fulfill the immigration requirements for long-term stay, but that's not you. You only want to stay for 40 days - thirty days you will get on arrival at the airport (visa exempt) and 10 more days you'll get after popping into immigration and asking for an extension to that. Cost 1900 baht.

    Sorry Nev .
    I wasn't being clear .

I kicked off this Thread asking about a visit to go soon .......... but I wandered off into an enquiry about maybe needing an agent because I will need ( eventually ) a long-term , marriage stay . Which is apparently a Non-Imm 'O' . At that point it's the Non-Imm that was in my mind . It wasn't meant to be about going to an agent for a 40 Day stay . I can see from looking back that I kind of jumped into a different Dimension without saying so .

    My fault .

Somewhere along the way I was told that if you want to open a Thai Bank Account a useful step is to tell them at Arrival in Suvarnabhumi that you would like to open a Bank Account . You will then get a stamp in your Passport . Which will be of assistance .

Does anybody know anything about this ? Whether its true or not ?

I don’t think he is a troll, just a dumb, touchy, lonely old codger blathering away a load of shite.

He flounced a few years ago because someone “upset” him.

Hope this post has the same effect.

I was wondering if they were trying to tell you to get a type O visa before trying to open a bank account. That's assuming you are on a tourist exempt and want to settle sometime on marriage or retirement visa.
