It was every 15 days at one point!
The unoffical marriage visa. Get a 15 day stamp, no visa, then get it extended for 60 days at immi for 1,900b starting from the end of the 15 based on family, repeat every 75 days. Was actually quite good for the border based lads near Laos and Cambo. Pick up a load of whiskey and fags at duty free prices, and pretty much turn a profit on the whole thing.
Not at the Thai/Malay borders. The Duty free (Zen) is Malaysian, so it may me cheap for them but it's not far off Thai prices.
I used to buy things I can't get here. Trolleys full of corned beef, HP Sauce etc...
The cheap booze and fags are smuggled from Langkawi and are readily available in a number of shops on the same street in Hat Yai.
Lang may yer lum reek...
^ Selling up and relocating the family next to Cambodia is always an option.
Hat Yai is only 15mins away on the Triumph.
Thanks for all the replies.
As others have said it looks like doing the non-immigrant o visa based on family is my best option.
The Thai embassy website is quite easy now and don't even have to drive into DC it can all be done online.
It says they aren't doing the visa stamps now so I guess it's some type of digital deal.
I will report back how the online process works out. I have already started and so far it seems easy.
I'm happy to report back that I got my visa today. Non-immigrant O single entry
It was done 100% online and was easy to enter all my documents.
Thanks for all the info. Just over a month to go hopefully I can slip in with the current covid regs.
Good man.
Good luck.
If going to extend it for 12 months after arriving, you need 400k in a Thai bank account held solely in your name for 2 months. No harm in starting that early if possible. Or else verified monthly overseas income, which is a bit trickier than it used to be, with documents from your embassy required for most nationals, and different embassies having different requirements.
After arriving you can also get a (one time per entry) 60 day extension based on family that will start at the end of your 90 day permission of temporary stay stamp, giving you 150 days.
All extensions done at an immigration office inside Thailand. Not Penang.
Bon voyage.
Thanks, I think just keeping the 400k in a bank is the simple way to go.
Think that's what Edmond is on.
I am pretty sure it's the same as a marriage extension, but instead of a marriage certificate you would need some proof of relationship to the child. I guess a birth certificate that shows you as the father should be enough. But call your local Immigration office in Thailand, They speak English, and are happy to help . Or, if not in Thailand call the Thai consulate responsible for your area.
But if not in Thailand , you can simply come here visa exempt, assuming you are from a country that participates in the visa exempt program.
I have an American passport , we came back from Greece a couple of months ago. Because I was visiting there and did not have easy access to scanners and printers to apply for a Non O from there I came back Visa exempt.
Now you get 45 days. When here I applied for a Non O based on marriage,
(you of course would be applying based on child)
a couple of weeks ago a Three months Non O based on marriage approved and for only $30 extra I got a re-entry ,
(I doubt I will be traveling in the next 3 months but Just in case ).
In February I will be applying for my I year extension, with multiple re-entries during that Year.
As I said I suspect your process would be the same except for the proof of relationship, which for you it would be "Child" rather than "Wife"
Good luck!
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.
