I thought a visa run to Ranong, Burma to extend my visa on arrival was 15 days?
Yesterday I went to visit the Andaman resort & spa for my visa run and to visit the casino.
Brilliant! I will do it this way again, for sure
As I'm on Koh Phayam I arranged a car and driver to pick 2 of us up at the Koh Phayam pier and drive us to the Andaman resort pier. Then straight in to the resort centre to book out ticket to the Island. At the same time you go to the 'resorts' immigration office. I say the resorts immigration because the pier is for the exclusive use of its guests. Anyway 2 minutes later and a nice smile from the immigration officer and I has my exit stamp. I paid 950 Baht for entry to Burma / ferry ride. Ferry is free if your staying at the resort.
You arrive at the resort pier in about 25 minutes were you meet a couple of friendly Burmese immigration officials who take your passport off you ( you get it back when you leave, already stamped in/ out .
Hop on a shuttle bus to take you to the resort.
I spent about 3 hours there, had a few beers and a snack in the restaurant. I also brought my Thai driver to the resort and paid for his meal and drinks. I can't remember how much the bill was, but it was less than 1000 Baht. We has a look.round the casino, downstairs is all slot machines and upstairs is the casino proper. I can't judge how good a casino it is, because that was my first casino
Then it was time to go. As you come out of the casino the door opposite is the entrance to the duty free shop. Got a nice 1litre of Absolute vodka, 550 Baht.
Hop on the shuttle bus for the ride to the pier, pick up you Burmese stamped passports and back over to Thailand..
Nice big friendly smile from the Thai immigration guy and he stamped me in with another 30 days, same for the kraut I was with.
A nice day out, not the cheapest option but I would definately do it this way again.
I'm a lazy tourist. ...if I had a 3 month visa I would never leave Thailand, so for over 20 years I just get a 30 day visa on arrival and then go visit somewhere else, sometimes flying for the 30 days, other times just a quick run to the nearest border.
I'm actually booked to fly from Phuket on the 11th of January to Penang, then back to Chiang Mai for another month.
As for Koh Phayam. ...what can I say... beautiful beaches, mostly kraut tourists, beautiful women and a bamboo beach hut about 15 metres from the sea, 800 Baht a nite. The bar closes when the last customer leaves. ...yes, it's hard work but someone's got to keep the staff busy
