Affirmation freedom to marry needed for marriage extension

    Hello guys.
I am currently on a non o multi entry visa. I am due to visit Kap choeng immigration, next week to apply for a marriage extension. I thought i had all my ducks in a row, with all the paperwork i will need. However i cannot find my affirmation of freedom to marry(translated to thai) What i need to know is whether that would be a deal breaker as far as the e xtension goes? And is it a possibility that where we got married (amphur) is it there policy to keep hold of that form. Any advice would be much appreciated. Keith.

I recall all you need is both copies of your marriage certificates and your wife in tow. I believe you have to have been married at least 12 months. I'm probably wrong. I use Kap Choeng and that's how I recall it.

Affirmation of freedom to get married is something you need to get married (letter from your consulate). As Pragmatic says, you will need your marriage certificate.

Obviously you know of all the other requirements for your extention? KC's a long way to go and it's a bummer if you ain't got the correct docs.

Even though I ruffle their feathers sometimes, those guys on the buriram forum are pretty dialed into KCI as far as the documentation required and how high to jump when the officer says to.

Of course you don't need it, you are not single, plus those affidavits aren't valid for more than a few months

Thanks for putting me straight guys.it was only the affirmation part that baffled me. I have everything else required. Luckily i,m only about 30 miles from KC. So hopefully all should be ok. Many thanks again.

Lucky bugger. It's 150km each way for me. The first time I went there I had my monies in a joint bank account. I was ignorant of the rules at that time and I had to do the return trip just to cancel that account and open a new one just in my name. Talk about being pissed off.

That joint account thing catches a LOT of foreigners off guard..

Some immigrations offices will accept a joint account IF the balance is twice what it needs to be for whatever extension you're applying for.

Their reasoning being, half the money is yours, half is your wife's.

Don't forget when Immigrations closes shop today they don't open back up 'til Monday morning 'cause of the holiday(s).
