New Visa Renewal Service Opens at Promenada Mall Chaing Mai

July 17, the superintendent of Immigration Division 5, Bandit Tungkasanee, was the guest of honour for the grand opening of the new visa renewal service at Promenada Resort Mall Chiang Mai. This new service point officially opens today, July 20th.

According to authorities, the move promises convenience to foreigners staying in Thailand, will increase efficiency and aims to prevent transnational crime as well as help to prepare for the upcoming AEC.

The visa renewal service, located on the ground floor, connected to the parking area in Building A at Promenada Resort, provides services of retirement visas, 90 days reports, tourist visas, medical case and re-entry permit.

The office opens at 8.30 am until 4.30 pm. Contact 053-142788 for more details.

That should help some with people having to show up at the crack of dawn to wait to get a queue number so they can try to do their extension of stay at the old location.

Just a question, it appears that for business, marriage extensions you go to the original orifice err office, not the new one.. Anyone know?

Hmm, I dunno how much transnational crime it's gonna prevent, because as a rule criminals don't care all that much about their visa and/or extension status.

Went over to Promenada this morning to do my 90 day. Showed up around 10:00, was given a number and had to wait about an hour to do the deed.

There is a copy and photo booth next to the immigration office as well as a commercial visa service booth. A big coffee shop is outside with fresh coffee and plenty of seating.

Tried to do this online again but this time my browser wouldn't allow access to Thai Immigration 90 day reporting page. Chrome threw up a message the site was compromised and not to post any information there.

^misskit; as a rule it'll only work if you use an IE emulator in Chrome or Firefox. Of course it works in IE too.. Plus you need to make sure you're using the correct webpage as they changed it a couple months ago.
Link to 90 Day Online Reporting

The reason you're getting a security warning is that Thai Immigration self signed the security certificate rather than buying one.. You can click go to the link anyway and you'll be fine..

Also you have to disable your pop-up blocker or you won't get the prompts to finish the process.

Just curious, Does anyone know what's the name of that coffee shop commercial visa service next door?

The one where they have the workers go person by person thru the Immigration queue hawking their expedited visa service?

    Just wondered was all..

Anyone renew their retirement visa since the new office opened?

Is retirement renewal available only at the Promenada Resort now?

I read some rumors about a different process for retirees. True? For Americans, it used to be prove your income, pay your fee and fill out the form. Fairly straightforward, if it wasn't that quick.

“The Master said, At fifty, I knew what were the biddings of Heaven. At sixty, I heard them with docile ear. At seventy, I could follow the dictates of my own heart; for what I desired no longer overstepped the boundaries of right.”

^ I did my "retirement" visa at Promenada a couple of months ago. Same old, same old, including having to arrive before dawn to get in line to get a number to be seen.

    ^ Thanks, missy.

You're not saying 5AM early, are you? Also, if you're too late will they give you a number for the next day? The fvckin' coffee shop better be open

So no option to go to the Airport office (it's closer)?

Translate "ca change", if it's Kiwispeak. Makes me think of the sound when you close a cash register.

^^^ Yes. 5am early. No numbers for the next day.

Carry your flashlight. I moved the baracade and drove into the parking garage where it was spooky. Others parked out on the highway if front of the mall and stumbled in.

As far as the old office, I don't know what is available there. A friend of mine said yesterday, she had done her 90 day at the old office just last week. However, she has both Thai and American citizenship so she may be privileged at Thai immigration.

^ I've got nothing to do. I'll pop over there. Check around (now's a good time) and, if they're renewing, find somebody who's waiting.

^ Yeah, retirement visas and 90 address reports are available only at Promenada Mall. How many desks are being used there? The old office at least had two.

I have an incorrect date stamp for re-entry (on a 3 entry tourist visa) from my last border run via Mae Sai to Burma. I need to get this corrected. (They put 2015 instead of 2016 in one place, got it right the other place)

To do so should I go to Promenada Mall where I did my previous 30 day extension, or to this Old Office that people are referring to - and if so where is it?

Either office could probablY help with that. Get it done as soon a possible. Immigration will say it is your fault for not checking before you left the immigration counter that their work was correct.

The old office is on Mahidol/Airport Road just before the airport. Same road Promenada Mall is located, just on the other (west) end.

"Old" Immigration Office - Chiang Mai

Thank you, Miss! Will do. Just for fun I will try the Airport location and see what happens.

For others reading this, head westbound on Mahidol passing Airport Plaza (google map name "Central Plaza Chiang Mai Airport"), the "old" immigration office is on the left just before the airport itself, as Miss Kit stated. The office does not come up on google maps, and has no website, but here is a map I found that shows its location using an oddly heiroglyphic blue tablet icon:
Chiang Mai Immigration Office - Chiang Mai Locator

Its onsite cafe (also invisible to google) is marked on this map with a cute coffee cup:
Cafe de Tor Mor @Chiang Mai Immigration Office - Chiang Mai Locator

It is said that this older office still handles matters pertaining to Marriage and Education visas.
Since I saw no Burmese workers at Promenada Mall, I assume it also handles work permits, at least for Burmese speakers.

    *************
For routine "extensions of stay" giving you an extra 30 days on a tourist visa or visa-free entry, and all other visas for Farangs, it seems that the "new" office at Promenada Mall is indeed the place. Immigration is located on a lower level, you enter from outside the mall on another side. BTW, Promenada Mall like some other malls does have a free shuttle service you can use to get there. Here's the schedule:

^ The Burmese go to a huge immigration building across the road from Promenada.

If you have a taste for Burmese food, check it out. It's like a little Burmese village outside there.

This building is where anyone needing a residency letter for a Thai driver's license needs to visit.

No, that's where you got the residency letter just prior to the Promenada office opening.
Now you get it from the agency next door to the photocopy shop next door to the immigration office at Promenada. I got such a letter this week from there so that I can register my new bike in my name (in the green book).

Damn it's like Freemasons or DaVinci Code or something, there are these arcane "degrees" of expat knowhow. I mean probably you could tell me more, but I would have to wear a blindfold and swear a blood oath first.

Okay, will add that (also secret, un-googlable) location to my list of vital locations!

And will def try the Burmese food when I go there. Chef at my fave restaurant Peppermint, on Ratchadamnoen Soi5 is Burmese, so my prejudice is favorable. Kind of miss him now that I have someone cooking in-house. Ahh well, goodbye to that old carefree bachelor life!

DID go by the Airport immigration office yesterday per your advice, in and out FAST, they initially attempted to deflect me to Promenada as I had a tourist visa, but I gave it the pretty-please second effort, and upon asking again they helped me out then and there.

AND - the cute giggly young girls behind the counter at Airport location were much more pleasant than the folks sweating and dealing with the long lines of weirdos at Promenada and also more pleasant than the stiff Mae Sai border staff. So... thanks for the tip!

Incidentally just for the helluvit I picked up Marriage Visa forms while I was there, at Airport Immigration office. List of stuff you'll need is in Thai, wountcha know! Probably the first requirment on the list is "Be a slavering idiot..."
