Any Experiences with One Way Air Ticket?

Has anyone experienced problems (or not) with checking in with a One Way Air Ticket to LoS?

I will be flying London->Bangkok and will be in possession of Non-Imm (90 days out/in) visa.

I make a policy of trying to get one over on the airlines. I always buy a return, then don't come back.

You are ok with that visa. Air France didn't like me flying there with no visa, but I lied to them, so it worked out ok.

^^What visa (if any) were you travelling with stroll? I had a dual entry tourist visa once with a one way ticket and I was questioned for quite a time ...can't remember the airline, but they let me on in the end.

I always buy R/T tickets that originate in Thailand. I always have a visa.

The only time I got any static was last year leaving KL after I just received a year multiple b-visa. The ignorant cnut at the Malaysia airlines ticket counter wanted to see a return ticket. I was in an irritable mood and bit her head off informing her of the visa in my passport and if she didn't like it she could bring her on supervisor.
Traveling from the USA no one has ever said anything.

EVA (in LDN) gave me right shit over the return leg of a ticket that orginated in BKK. They saw the return leg of the ticket to BKK as being one-way. Took some time to convince the girl that it really didn't matter as I had a WP.

That said, almost everyone else I have spoken to has said EVA were great. But I had the most horrid flight and service with them. So I guess it must be the way I look

^EVA in LAX didn't say boo. Maybe because the flight was connected through TPE.
Mainly they were very apologetic because their lounge wasn't open.

I had a wonderful flight in biz class on their new B-777, what a great airplane!
The 21 year old scotch was great along with the rest of the service.

Don't know about Heathrow but I've had to talk to the supervisor in a few places. That said I have never been asked by immigration to show a ticket.

Thanks all - Why do the airlines care about this? I would have thought that it would have been immigration that would be interested.

Yep. I forget when, but a few years ago it fell upon the checkin staff to make sure that people had valid visas, and in the absence of that, return tickets.

Some take it more seriously than others. I once had to bluff my way through as well. I was resolutely stopped when travelling from BKK to Penang on a one way ticket (I had planned to go back by land), and when I could not show a valid credit card they flat out refused.

If you get the cheapest type of tickets, you may not be able to get a refund if this happens to you, so be careful. Even with a one way ticket, the visa in the passport should be good enough and they are supposed to let you through.

I used to buy round trip tickets in Bangkok, so I'd travel to Thailand on what was essentially a one-way-ticket: i.e. I had no return. I finally got Northwest to realize that while a "visa on arrival" does require an onward ticket, "entry without visa" does not.

Note that this was a few years back, so the rules may have changed.

I suppose if you get into Thai on a one way ticket, then have your Embassy fly you home in disgrace you have saved some money.
    Not suggesting anything of course.
