Visa run to Kanchanaburi now possible

It seems like the opening of new Burmese crossing points is now a reality and you now have the option of doing a visa run to Kanchanaburi instead of Ban Laem. Not much info on it yet but here is one outfit already offering the service from Kanchanaburi for 1750 baht

Some pictures from their facebook page

    https://www.facebook.com/VisaRunInKanchanaburi

    Where is it ?

    Where is the border?

Phunamron immigration (Thailand ) From kanchanaburi is 1 hour by cars.
Thi Khi immigration (Myanmar) 30 minute

( their info not mine )

Thi Khi ( surely not a place to shit ? )

Anyways ,I plan to do this next month so will try to do a thread on it.

If anyone else has any info on it I'd ne interested to see it.

    More info here :

Thanks Bangyai, even with the 3 hours to Kanchanaburi it will be good for the adventurous.

From our home in Nonthaburi I reckon Kanchanaburi is easily doable in 2 hours.

After that it still looks a bit primative. There are apparently two border crossings to the west of Kanchanaburi :

Phunamron ( obviously some kind of hot spring there ) plus :

    Bong Ti .

I have just been using the little man on google maps to check out the roads there. To Bong Ti it looks like good tarmac until the last 5 k when it peters out into a narrow dirt track with jungle either side.
Phunamron seems even less developed with only a photograph of a couple of Thai mountain bikers and an old border signpost.

Don't know if things have changed since google were there but the visa run company are saying 5 hours round trip from Kanchanaburi which is pretty slow.
Plus it is pretty wet now so I don't fancy driving my car on dirt ( mud ) roads so I might scrap the journey until its a bit more civilized. Also looks like you need a Burmese visa to cross over, unlike a Mae Sot where its a very quick in and out.

Still, maybe the border down an Prachuab is now open ?? Decisions , decisions.

A good motorcyclists blog with pictures of the road out to Bong Ti

If you go into google maps you can see pictures of the road that are worse than this. That picture actually looks wider than what google show. Either way I agree. Not going to subject my car to a muddy drive just to find out.

Is that a river alongside the road? I wouldn't like to be travelling along the road when it subsides.

So I did this yesterday 3 October- went to Phu nam ron:

I went here yesterday to check it out. It is open- but exactly that: a border crossing/checkpoint. No towns, no hawkers and nothing to buy (2 restaurants and a snackshop though).

As I am awaiting the completion of the office space for my job, I wanted to extend the visa. Plus when I came to Thailand for the first time, my first visit was to Kan, and I wanted to see it again. I didn't use the Visa Run service mentioned in the above thread- only because he told me that he didn't have customers scheduled that day and I would have to pay extra...Hmmm, no thanks. Went on my own by learning that you can hire a "taxi"(songtaew) for 1,000 baht to go and take u back. That may sound like a lot, but it is pretty far and it is 3+ hours of the drivers time.

Anyhoo- the roads are in great condition except for 1 small patch over 1 bridge where they were still pouring concrete so we were diverted to the left slightly. It gets hilly and curvy as one might expect when get near the border, but no problems. Quite beautiful actually.

The 15 day extension was 700 Baht and took 1 hour- don't care, I got it done. Bring on the criticisms bitter old members who have nothing better to do!

It looks nothing like the above pics, so I don't know if it's a different route or just old pics...

    Something not quite right there.
    An extension costs 1900 baht.

The only thing close to 700 baht is a transit visa @ 800 baht.
    What did you actually get?

To respond to your question: "What did you actually get?",

read your own quote from my original post. To help you out, I'll quote that for you:

"15 day extension was 700 Baht"

I just did an in out at mae sot. Burmese fee for stamp (no visa - takes only a small bit of 1 page in your passport 500bt). Lovely service. I won't be going to those orrible cvnts at the thai embassy in vientienne again

^^ I would guess that you mean a 15 day Visa Exemption stamp.

    Not an extension.

And that the 700b was the 'fee' for the Burmese side. For example the $10 (or 300-500baht) fee for the day stamp into Burma from Mae Sot.

It will be good for people from BKK who don't have to deal with Poipet or other Cambodian scummers.

It would be good to get info from people who have been there and done it, and actually know what they are on about.

If it is 700b (or less in $) for a small stamp in the passport like in Mae Sot, and then stamped back in, and they do it for multiple-entry Non Imm visas (90 day border runs) they will do very well out of the BKK expats, and I suspect it will take off once word gets out.

    (edit: yes they do)

I was using Mae Sot for a while until they told me not to go back there. Told me I had to leave by plane and re-enter Thailand or go to Aranyaprathet before I could go back there again.

This was one of my tips:

New Thai/Myanmar border crossing near Kanchanaburi for visa runs! - Lonely Planet travel forum

If you read, it says that the Thai law is 500 for fee, and the OP paid 600. I paid 700, as asked by the BiB in charge. This was Phu Nam Ron, not Mae Sot. To each their own I guess. But that included any Burmese fee's like I said before. Just more current info is all.

You get a Visa Exemption when entering Thailand without a visa (nationality permitting). You get 30 days when entering by air, 15 days on land borders.

An extension is when you go to an immigration office (not a border crossing) and extend your current visa (or even visa exemption in some cases). Cost is 1,900 baht regardless of length.

Typically 7, 30, 60 or 90 days, or 12 months. Based on marriage, work, study, retirement, tourism.

You entered Thailand by a land border without a visa and were given a 15 day Visa Exemption. Also, incorrectly, called a VoA (Visa on Arrival).

    Incorrect.

The official fee in Aranyaprathet (and everywhere else) is US$20. For the cheapest tourist visa.

That would be because the Friendship Bridge crosses into Laos, and not Cambodia.

And also on your nationality. Laos visas are quite differential with the costs given to different countries.

*Sorry , you said EVERYWHERE ELSE.

Yes - also on your nationality.

You are a Septic cvnt so you pay less

(p.s "septic cvnt" doesn't apply to our good American brothers such as Boon Mee and Bsnub - even though they aren't the best of mates )

    I'm from Newcastle.

And yes, everywhere else you get an official tourist visa for Cambodia in person. The official fee is us$20 other factors not withstanding (express, E-visa etc.) You ain't been paying over the odds on your monthly visa runs have you?
