where to get the Banker's draught etc in the Minburi area?
follow instructions to the letter as they kick it back often .
Uh, as far as I am aware, there is now no option to do it by application in BK at the embassy?
Think the ONLY option is courier to Hong Kong.
NOte: Again, as far as I am aware, the requirement is for you to send your original passport with the application, BUT -if you are resident (living/ working) in Thailand you are allowed to send a photocopy of each page of the passport instead (as you break Thai law if you do not have your passport with you at all times).
HONG KONG!
British embassy no longer provides this service as I had to renew mine a few months ago.
^^I think that refers to lost and stolen passports.
You don't necessarily need a banker's draught. There's a credit card payment form you can download (that's what I did.)
I also sent all documentation through the Thai postal service. EMS, I think.
This maybe of assistance.

I live most of the time in China, so I applied from there to renew my passport. But they are the same rules if you apply from Thailand.
You have send your application to the British consulate in Hong Kong. They forward it to the UK. I got mine back last month, it took just four weeks.
There is no requirement to send your old passport, just photocopies of your ID page and your visa page.
I don't have a credit card but they accepted my Natwest debit card payment.
I renewed my passport because it was full (only two pages left) it still had a couple of years on it, but they gave me another ten years on my new one.
Do they usually make you have the application for a renewal countersigned these days ?
I got a new jumbo passport within 3 hours in person for £137 earlier this month so they are charging you more even without the courier fee (£154.50). And remember, £137 was for the '4 hour service'. Sounds a bit unfair.
Turned out to be a pricey day, £80.80 return train Aberdeen to Glasgow, £137 for passport, £12 for cinema ticket, £15 return special delivery to Thai Consulate in Birmingham and £125 for NON-O visa.
The passport I currently held was good until 2020, but this Hong Kong caper had me renew it before I got back. They gave me more than 10 years, 11 years 4 months iirc just like they did with my previous one.
I have drawn a thin but visible pencil line down the middle of every page and 3 lines across to create 8 equally sized boxes on each page. There is no reason for those inconsiderate pricks at any immigration to sodomize your passport pages with ill placed stamps. My passport can fit 8 on a page, please use it accordingly! They generally snarl at it when they open it but they will place the stamp in a box. It's not my passport, but it's not theirs either!
I suggest you all do the same, It can add years to the life of your passport.
Lang may yer lum reek...
I don't suppose any of you fine people know what the crack is if you actually go to Hong Kong ? Cheers
I did start a new topic and then saw this one so maybe a Mod might want to merge that post with this one ?
Hi Big Fella,
I understand the passport is still issued in the UK, so all you will do is save the posting time. I hope I am wrong ( it does happen ) so that the wife can enjoy HK for a few days. ( I saw the other thread).
Cheers TP
^8 months ago when I applied for my renewal.
Sent to Hong Kong and passport was delivered from the UK.
hi all. I downloaded the form to renew my passport which has just less than a year to
expire. the form asks for details of your parents eg birth date and place ,marrige date and place, but both my parent died over forty years ago and at 68 my memory is not as good as it was. So i sent an E mail to uk passport help team for advise . I got a mail back saying cant help as they dont deal with passport renewel from thailand.
I replied ,if you cant or wont help please indicate who can or will preferably by Email as i have partial deafness. The reply was web sites for uk gov hong kong which has been no help .. I just want to know whether to leave the questions blank ,put dont know or guess the dates. I dont want to send and have returned because i failed to fill in all details . I am at a loss at what to do .. Can anyone addvise thanks pete..
You need to read the form very, very carefully, and follow the yellow arrows. If you were born in UK BEFORE 31st December 1982 you will not need to provide details in this section.
In detail:
Section 2, first question "Were you born in the UK after 1982. Answer "No". Small arrow down to second question "Were you born outside the UK or qualifying territory" Answer "no". small arrow to "Go to section 3".
Section 3a are you married etc.
Hope this helps
Thankyou Nidhogg It seems as well as bit deaf i am a bit stupid as well but coudent the help site in uk have pointed this out as you have. thanks again and i can now fill the form in . I have however noticed on the uk web site that 2014 they will close hong kong and deal with pasports in the uk again. As mine is valid till september i will try to find out when in2014 this will come about Cheers. pete
Glad to help.
I just renewed my passport. It all went well until they sent me the new passport -which had a f*cking huge mistake in it.
Trying to get information on how to proceed was a right pain in the arse.
To really get in touch with the people, there are only two ways. The first is to pay for access to an on line help line, and the second is to call the hotline -again, you have to pay (by credit card). As I could not, simply not, access the log in page to pay for the pass code, I ended up calling the hotline.
You get straight in contact with an information officer, and the ONLY information they want is your credit card number, which you have to key in on your phone. I f*cked it up 3 times, and the woman on the other end was a dead unhelpful scottish woman. Finally got it through, and the only advice was "send it back". Near on 20 quid for that!
The marfy cow also said 'the passport office seldom makes mistakes".
So, I sent it back, with a letter explaining that, thank you for the new passport, but no, I was not born in 00, and that while I could not be 100% sure I did not make a mistake on the form (note to self -photocopy the bloody form before sending it off!!!!), I was 100% sure that the old passport had the correct date, and could they please send me a new one.
Exactly 7 days later a new passport arrived. Different number from the first one they sent. So, while I was a tad miffed, the speed with which the new one arrived was impressive. To date, I have not been charged for the second one (will keep an eye on that), so I am assuming that it was indeed, their mistake.
mild rant:
Each passport they issue has a different number. So now I will have to go to a great deal of trouble to update bank details etc etc etc in three different countries. pain in the arse.
second rant
48 f*cking pages. My last one lasted only 5 years....
Otherwise go to HMG and DEMAND your rights as an UK citizen.
Fwk da gummint!!!!
Dey iz 4 us, according to the Magna Carta.
I thought that you would be able to fly to HK and hand your application, wait a couple of days and return and pick up your new passport but alas you can't. They simply process the application and it then gets sent to the UK where it is then returned to you. There isn't any embassy in the SE Asian region you can go to which is an outright disgrace if you ask me.
Treat everyone as a complete and utter idiot and you can only ever be pleasantly surprised !
