Is there anywhere to park safely in Nong Khai?
Is there anywhere to park safely in Nong Khai?
Yes just before the bridge on the right hand side they have a lock up. I parked my car there for a few days last time no problems
Cheers chap.
Your welcome old bean
That's where I stayed last time I was there...
I wasn't paying of course!..(otherwise I wouldn't mention it...)
The Donchan Palace. The nightclub is outside on the third floor. Go in the main entrance and take the lift up. It's very busy at the weekends, and busy enough during the week to have a laugh in the right company. Last time i was there i think it was 30,000 Kip entry fee, which entitles you to a large bottle of Beer Lao.
nice journey...
The best value place to stay in Vientiane is probably the Mali Namphu guesthouse. It's on the road going north from the fountain, on the right hand side.
$15 or $17 a night for a great room, with TV, aircon, and breakfast in the courtyard. Nothing really comes close in this price range.
Great hang outs are Sticky Fingers and the Full Moon Cafe on the road running away from the river front after the Orchid Guesthouse. Both have happy hours (I think the Full Moon has one every day) in the early evening and if you don't mind the NGOs and their families, they're really nice places to drink and eat.
The supermarket in the photo does lots of Laos coffee, which is much better than anything you can buy in Thai supermarkets. The best stuff is around 28,000 kip for 500g. I always stock up when I go there.
Good thread - and a great place. Probably the smallest capital city in the world, after the Vatican, that is.
The truth is out there, but then I'm stuck in here.
"Sticky Fingers" was closed.
Can somebody explain me what are 'merkins', 'poms' and 'Krauts' ?
Thanks ....

My visa is taken care of by my company in BKK. If I've ever had to leave the country back to the UK , HK etc in other words a plane journey I have to have a re entry permit then the visa in the passport is adjusted at the visa department. My question is if I want to go over to Laos for a couple of nights is there an easier way to do this without all the hassle I usually have to go through without affecting my visa issued by the work permit department? Is there a temporary form or something like that?
just to warn people about the problems i had on a visa run to Ranong/Burma. After getting drunk one night i found the cleaners had put my clothes through the washing maching including my passport?, the only problem with it was my original entry visa had washed out. It took 4 visits to various immigration offices before i was back in business, cost 1900Bt to put the original visa back, 1900Bt for an extension of ten days and 800bt overstay, and then to top it when i left thailand i had again overun my visa by 8 days so another 2400Bt. total cost not including travelling 7000Bt or £100. The moral of the story Look after your passport...lol
One more quicke,
Sorry if already been covered before.
Will my TG need to buy a Laos visa? If so can do at the border?
No. Thais don't need a visa.Originally Posted by jambone

Sorry can't be more specific.
Mali Namphu is excellent. Been there a few times myself. Vientiane is a great stop over on the way to (sp) Luang Prabang. My wife and I love Luang Prabang and Vientiane.
Great thread Stroller. Thanks.
Where is this food shop located? Thanks in advance.
Already booked my run to Laos next week. About how much extra THB to take along for food and beverage (don't think there will be any nefarious activities within 24 hours). From what I understand ATMs are nowhere to be seen in Laos.
But would like to bring back some Laotian coffee.
Great pics.
Over here at the moment. Don't actually know what town I am in at the moment - somewhere about 5 hour drive from vientainne near Vietnam.
First time to Loas and I am very impressed. So much cheaper then thailand.
What time do bars, clulbs, etc. generally close in Laos these days? Is it still midnight or whatever stupid time it was last time I was there?
What an excellent post, a great start to my becoming part of TeakDoor.
