What's with the negativity towards teachers here?

There's ~60000 expats (European/American) in Bangkok and I'm sure the teaching professionals outnumber any other professional group.

Who have you had the pleasure of meeting that turned you off of TEFLers?

Some are jerks, sure, but that's the same as in any population.

They're the same as everyother 'group' of expats here. Most are freaks, nutjobs and mentally unwell.

Why would I meet up with people like that? that's why my company here is nearly always female.

Generally we make 'enemies' with people we've never met on internet forums.

And that's what I'm thinking about! I'm a well-established user of 131 posts on Ajarnforum, but most of the threads boil down to bickering over grammar and self-righteousness.

It can be fun over there, Jellybean was a good sort and always gave a good fight but unforunately has been on holiday for a while.

I find the very public spats, vendetta's and rivalries between the TEFLers on here (non of whom I actually know) to be equal parts bemusing and entertaining.

It's like watching a bunch of just oversized guppies in a feeding frenzy in a small fish bowl.

I've never quite managed to get a handle of this thing some people seem to have against TEFLers either. "TEFLer" is often used in a derogatory manner by some.

If you ventured outside of the gogo bars you'd find that there are actually a great deal of decent expats in Bangkok.

There's a lot of bickering for sure, but it's always dominated by he who has the most time to spend on the forum. I actually have to get off my ass and work occasionally...
