No wonder they (Thai teachers) are always complaining about these Johnny Foreigners coming over here & earning 30k a month. I genuinely feel sorry for them, still one wonders why they go into the teaching game if it pays so poorly.

^^That is the very bottom lowest starting pay for a teacher, most Thai teachers (as most of them are old) earn 20k baht plus.

Hate to piss on your parade Prop, but 1,380 US dollars is 45,540 baht.
I do believe you need to consult someone in the Mathematics Dept.

^ Why are people even talking in dollars? err this is Thailand and Baht is the currency here.

Older teacher who have been in the same job 20 years or more earn 20 - 25 K pcm once they get to C1 C2 C3 level as I understand it. (As NickA already stated)

If I'm reading your post correctly Tex he is right in saying that 1380USD per year as in annually,(45,540b per year) is equal to just under 4500B per month not per year assuming those figures are correctly posted from their source..

Actually more precisely but not sure why it isn't posted as such it would be 3795b per month..

Under any circumstance it is depressingly low...

Notwithstanding the error picked by Driventowin above, the OP does clearly state annual vs monthly.

Perhaps you can help each other with your homework after you have consulted someone in the English Department?

True, and for the students that don't go to tutoring classes, it is reflected in their grades, even if they don't need tutoring. At least thats what I'm told by Thais. Is it possible that this is just another way to milk the cow?

Its been known to happen....though I've never seen first hand evidence of it.

Is it really that low or, if compared with teacher vs other occupations salaries in other countries is it comparable? Teachers worldwide are far from high paid.

I personally know Head Deputy assistants (hee-hee,married to one) that make more than what the majority of senior Thai teachers make.

Your not up to date ! Things are starting to change. See the following article

NEW YORK - When people start talking about rappers and supermodels shunning the dollar, you know there's a problem.
As the greenback recently hit historic lows against other major currencies, rap mogul Jay-Z released a new video in which he flashes euros, not dollars. It was also widely reported last week that one of the world's richest supermodels, Gisele Bundchen, opted to be paid in euros because of the dollar's weak outlook. Her spokeswoman has denied that the model was spurning the dollar, saying Bundchen is paid in the currency of a job's location.
Nevertheless, the euro bought an all-time record $1.4752 on Friday and the British pound has also been trading at its highest levels against the dollar since the early 1980s. The Canadian dollar, often called the "Loonie," reached parity with the dollar in September for the first time since 1976, and has climbed steadily since.

thought I might add a nice little picture:

4500 per month? Sounds like a 20 year old statistic to me. Most teachers start at about 7000 per month. Raises depend on their qualifications, reviews, what subject they teach and maybe where they teach (I'm not sure of the last one)

Most teachers get annual raises and after 20 or 30 years get about 20,000 to 25,000 plus whatever they make from private lessons. A smart teacher who teaches a popular subject can double their income with a few weekend classes.
