This vlog reminded me of the ajarn.com good old days!

Some of the stuff Bruce talks about sometimes came up in the old TEFLer forum. Never personally met the guy but shared multiple acquaintances. I did attend his TEFL course in Ban Phe back in August 2007. FYI … Dave Hopkins who was the primary trainer in Ban Phe passed away a couple weeks ago at age 80.

I cannot stand all the vlogging wankers that have now pitched up in Thailand. Total muppets and they all show such repetitive image of Thailand.

Concur. Only shared this one because Bruce and the local TEFL scene were a blast from the past.

I watched an interview of BKK Pat by this guy. It was alright.

The Pat power walk at the start is kinda funny. 0:53 in

Yeah, the interview pulled me back to my spectator days and reading, researching, planning the dipping my toes into the TEFLer scene thing back in the 2004-2010 timeframe. Mostly what I heard and saw back then was the opinions of his detractors. But I liked what I got for my $1500 bucks. Which was basically a simple, professional method of teaching English for those with no clue about how to do it. Thankfully I landed in a school where the student English level was quite high and didn’t need the method I was taught. It’s a lot of friggin’ work. And now that I’ve seen the interview and heard his side of the story I’d have to applaud him. You get exactly what’s promised to you and then it’s up to you whether success or failure comes your way. Another side benefit of the course, though not it’s intention, was as introduction to the absolute freak show type of people a newbie is going to encounter in Thailand.

I did my TEFL in Phuket with TEFL International. One of the teachers there was an ajarn poster. Can't remember his name now. American. Beard. Young at the time. Eric?

If it's the Eric I'm thinking of, he got deported from Thailand and ending up dying of a drug overdose in America. One of the posters on SZS had posted up what a drug induced whack job he was at the time and the admin of SZS ended up getting a call from the Thonglor police asking to take down the guy's story.

2 was enough for me to realize I couldn’t turn down a contract that included paying fees for my luk sao at the international school level.

For a bit on AF. I've met him several times and at the time he seemed ok, however towards the end I was warned that Mr. Yaba and him became good friends.

He definitely seemed off kilter on af.

Remember him losing his about having to buy ping pong balls for his after school activity.

Hilarious rant, which his mod mates removed.

So, he was a speed fiend.

    It fits.

Brings back memories. The dynamic between Bangkok Phil and Louis was very interesting. I suspect. the forum was getting to risky for Phil. I still hold some resentment for the unceremonial manor in which Louis pulled the plug. Good group of folks on that forum, many here now.

That he apparently did it in some sort of country seat already seems quite ceremonial.
