    Repost from newbies section

    All,

I have really enjoyed reading the message boards and have slowly been getting some feeling for life in thailand beyond that of a too infrequent a visitor to Bangkok. I have just retired from the aerospace game here in the states and was wondering if any of you learned members had any idea of how one would go about exploring the possibility of teaching physics/science etc., in Thailand, and what the pitfalls or other potential downsides would be. My degrees are primarily in physics and applications thereof. I have little to no experience in areas outside of Bangkok except for a one week visit to pattaya and a weekend in Hua Hin. Most of everything else I have managed to pick up has been from the web.

    Thanks for any feedback,

    Trav

Get to visiting schools packing your CV. Believe me you will find a job. Pay will probably be just a tad low for a rocket scientist.

Klongy, we got many varieties of lifeforms floating around here on this forum but I knew not of such an eximious personage in our midst, pray tell us who the fok is s/he?

and Trav... even if nobody with such lofty credentials should pop out of the wood works of Teak Door, still welcome and make yourself at home .

Some good suggestions but I probably should have worded my request differently. I was thinking of something more like teaching technical english at say the secondary school or college level rather than a straight out physics or aerospace engineering teaching assignment although I feel that I could easily do so. The main problem is that I am here in the states and am not in a position to walk a resume around the local schools so to speak. i was looking for some possible contacts I could use to initiate things from here in the US.

    Thanks,

    Trav

Oh dear. I did that for a (short) while. I honestly wouldn't recommend it. 30-40 teenage boys in a class who want to be motorbike mechanics and who have no interest in learning English whatsoever. Don't do it, trust me.
