“Governor Perry’s economic policies are a carbon copy of the economic policies of Washington Republicans,” said Ben LaBolt, the Obama campaign’s press secretary.
LaBolt pointed to Perry’s endorsement of the “Cut, Cap and Balance” approach to addressing the debt-ceiling that many of the other presidential candidates had backed. That plan passed the House, but failed to make its way through the Senate.

how did he create one job outside of government? Its funny presidents & govenors don't create job one outside of government! Nor do they control the stock market... when times are good they take credit and when times are bad they don't.

Yes texas has faired well through the economic down turn but so has Hawaii and Washington whose state governments are filled with Democrats... and what kind of jobs were created? more burger flippers & gardeners or good high end jobs? just curious...

This is a great message board.... For me to poop on!

Low taxes for one reason. And, Texas is a friendly environment for business as opposed to say CA.

I like this Perry quote: " “I’ll work every day to make Washington, D.C. as inconsequential in your life as I can.”

Perry, just another Texan, blow-dried, airhead who says 'nookular'. A solid indicator of a low IQ.

Texas has that "black gold, Texas tea" thing which goes a long way toward helping third-world economies appear to be faring well. That and low-end service jobs, plus some tech in and around the educational centers like Austin, have fueled the job growth.

Perry is a slick, charming lightweight who is either telling the loony Christians what they want to hear or is actually a true believer. Let's hope it is the former- if so he is pretty damned convincing. If like Bachmann he is a true Dominionist, well, been nice knowin' y'all.

And after all of his huffing and puffing about small government he took the Federal stimulus money and used it for projects which created jobs that he took credit for.

Seriously, do any of the posters on this thread really believe BamBam will fail to be reelected? Worst POTUS ever? Gets my vote. But who's going to beat him? And, at this point with BamBam in office and NO challengers, does anyone even care? Dollar is in the toilet, economy is in ruins, and it's time to face the fact that America is a country in serious decline.

Texas is struggling right along with every other state. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, Texas had recently bumped up to 8.2 percent unemployment in June which puts it below the national average. Still plenty of states without miracles posted lower unemployment rates; New York, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Wisconsin, among others are all out performing Texas. Drill down even further into the numbers and there are plenty of residents that haven't felt the miracle.

I can imagine that those people with the low paying jobs are on Medicaid and getting food stamps.

Flip-Flop King Mitt Romney: “I’m Not Going To Vary … My Vision … Based Upon The Political Winds Of The Day”

Without even the slightest hint of irony.

"Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, vowed in a stop at Litchfield Technology in New Hampshire today that he would not change his political views to fit the prevailing political winds.“I’m not going to vary my speech and my vision for the American people based upon the political winds of the day,” Romney told reporters according to the Associated Press"

Perry is on a mission from God. He seriously prays for rain, but despite being the anointed one his prayers are never answered. . .or maybe God is giving him a "no."

OK, a telegenic lightweight with a Reagan cloned message- I get the drift.

He's definitely set to get the teabaggers support over slick, urbane Mitt Romney. For a start, he's a Mormon- bible belt smegma, secondly somewhat cerebral (and they hate that), third- tainted with HC reform, how dare he? A, shudder, RINO.

Small matters such as the fact Rick was a long term Democrat, has passed suspiciously 'government' like legislation in Texas, and was an academic airhead even by Aggie standards (and thats saying sumfin) will be airbrushed.
He's got big hair and a toothy grin, thats what counts. Mitt's got competition, finally.
Incidentally, what is it with Republicans and big hair? Ever since Reagan, the male bouffant is basically a prerequisite. Rick is Teabag light- not actually a teabagger (thats the kiss of death) but acceptable to them. The accomplished Mitt Romney will be preferred by the beltway types, the party machine. But he's still a Mormon.

    Maybe a combined ticket ?

He's a Texan and a hard man (I'm sorry, is that redundant?):
Perry on Bernanke: ‘I dunno what y’all would do to him in Iowa but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas’ | ThinkProgress
Perry in Iowa explaining that if Bernanke "prints more money between now and the election, I don't know what y'all would do to him in Iowa, but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas." Perry went on to say that if Bernanke printed more money, the act would be "almost treasonous in my opinion."

Oh, would you now? Talkin' like that could be the biggest mistake you ever made, you Texas brush popper. What a relief to learn that tales of Perry's restraint in speech are exaggerated.

Come to think of it, Perry does look a lot like Josh Brolin as Tom Cheney. . .

Perry brings in the public sector jobs (good for him making smart use of stimulus money, fucking hypocrite). Helpful chart at link:
CHART OF THE DAY: *Government* Jobs Led To Perry's Economic Boom | TPMDC
[The chart] shows pretty conclusively that the recession cost Texas 178,000 private sector jobs -- a fairly small share for a populous state, when you consider that crisis cost the country many millions. But in the same period, it added 125,000 public sector jobs -- nearly half of all government jobs created in this period nationwide. Put together, the Texas has only lost 53,000 jobs total during the downturn.

By the time they finish vetting Perry he might prove to be crazier than Bachmann, if that is possible.

It is entertaining, but I wish the Republicans could find/do better. This has to be the most pitiful group of Republicans I have ever seen run for the nomination (Not including Mr. Huntsman). It surly is the strangest bunch.

It seems some higher-ups in the party are also displeased with the field and are trying to encourage Ryan to run,……….

Daniels says he has spoken to Ryan about a bid and encouraged him to run, but that they haven’t talked in the past couple of weeks.

Another prominent conservative reformer, Jeb Bush, also thinks Ryan should run.

“I’ll be with him in the next couple days and I expect to have some good long talks,” Bennett says from Colorado.

^Kevin Drum has a blog post on the subject with which I tend to agree:
The Eternal Search for a White Knight
—By Kevin Drum| Wed Aug. 17, 2011 3:19 PM PDT
Seriously? Republicans are continuing to pine for another white knight? Rick Perry has only been in the race for five days, but his run of flaky off-the-cuff remarks already has the rumor mills rekindling over Paul Ryan and Chris Christie. (Though not for Rudy Giuliani, if you can believe that.) Come on, folks. If you can't win with any of the folks already running, you can't win.
    Kevin Drum | Mother Jones

I think Christie is kind of a dick but not too bad for a Thug. I think it is pathetic that he won't have a chance because he's too fat, especially in the United States of Fat Arse.
