^Some would say you have rather rose tinted glasses and don't understand the scene at all.
How can I have rose tinted views of the prostitution industry in Thailand, I've largely been complaining about it on this thread.

Yes of course I know many girls are in the industry because it's easy money for little work, that's so obvious I'm not even sure it needs to be mentioned.

Though in fact I did earlier tell the story of one girl I know regarding this.

Ok, definitely off this topic now, or will never get anything done.

I've known many bar owners and bar girls and have never seen these so called "sales" or girls "contracted into it". Those situations exist with the bars and massage parlors that cater to Thais, no doubt about that. The missionary in the OP is drawing attention and deluding people into thinking that this is the case in farang bars.

See my previous posts. I feel that the majority of the girls working in the farang catered industry don't see it as a problem, more of a way to make big money quite easily. For every girl this woman has saved I would bet there have been ten that have told her to fuck off or thought she was just another crazy farang.

I've met people working in Koh Chang resorts who are there as "contract slaves" involving loans to parents; I've yet to hear this from a bargirl.

It's interesting that no one wants to address the damage done by other kinds of work in Thailand.

I think perhaps the worst thing that this missionary woman and her ilk do by highlighting the farang sex trade in Thailand is to help T-shirt buyers and medical tourists and everyone else whose "cheap" whatever in Thailand comes at the cost of underpaid labour of one kind or another feel better about themselves. "At least I'm not a sex tourist."

There is a huge difference between the farang trade and the rest. To deny this, or to ignore it and highlight the farang division as if it were the problem, is to provide cover for those areas of the sex trade where really nefarious things happen with much greater frequency.

Even weirder to see some christian so called missionaries acting like the Christ in a bouddhist country. Proselytism, period.

A very civilised way to end a discussion. Perhaps there is a lesson for us all in that. Thanks guys.
