Kenneth Lay, the former chairman of Enron Corp. who was convicted of fraud and conspiracy charges tied to the collapse of the energy-trading giant, died in Aspen, Colo., last night. He was 64 years old.


His lawyer, Michael Ramsey, said his death was due to natural causes.

In May, Mr. Lay was found guilty in a Houston federal court of conspiracy, securities fraud and wire fraud. He was also found guilty of bank fraud and misrepresentation in personal loans in a separate trial.

The convictions of Mr. Lay and former President Jeffrey Skilling on a majority of the Enron conspiracy and fraud charges against them capped a long drive by the government to prosecute crimes associated with the Houston company's spectacular collapse into bankruptcy. As the Enron prosecutorial effort winds down after four years of forensic digging, it is clear that the government moved quickly in the wake of the 2001 scandal to demonstrate to an angry public that a cop was on the beat, the guilty would be punished and the system purged of corruption.

Mr. Lay faced a maximum penalty of 45 years in prison in the main trial and from zero to six months for each of the four separate bank charges. The sentencing was set for Oct. 23. Mr. Skilling has filed to have the verdict against him overturned.

It's real peculiar those on the bleeding-heart left criticized those individuals celebrating Zaquari's death but when Ken Lay goes down, rejoicing is in the air. Not saying Lay was an angel but there seems to be a double-standard here.

Zaquari was a hero

Kenny boy was a fraud

Ken Lay died of natural causes, nobody is wanking off about images of violence here - no double standard, more like apples and oranges.

His father, Michael Berg, has issued statements concerning his son's death. Could be informative for you to look these up on the net.

Respect is an earned value.
Take for example Mother Sheehan. Note her 'respect' is almost nil these days and Nick Berg's dad is right along side her...

Now they are not gonna be able to get a penny out of his estate. Perhaps his wife had a hand in his death.
