Sadly that's not really the case.

If we made elections free would the office holders be tied to PACs and lobbies once in office?

the democrats' campaigns should have a national theme and focus on one thing only....accountability.

if the republicans have to run on their record (and not fear), they'll probably lose both the senate and house.

on a somewhat unrelated note, it wasn't too surprising to see that it's the dems that are attempting to alter the racially discriminative caucus/primary schedule.

Hey Snaffie ... you voting this year ? I think my vote will neutralize yours

    Maria Cantwell of Washington

Main article: Washington United States Senate election, 2006
In 2000, wealthy internet executive and former Congresswoman Maria Cantwell unseated then-Senator Slade Gorton by some 2,200 votes, the smallest margin in state history, after spending a portion of her personal fortune. She has drawn fire from liberals in Washington for some of her votes, including her vote for the Iraq War Resolution, for the confirmation of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and against the attempted filibuster of Samuel Alito. Mark Wilson and Hong Tran filed as primary challengers because of these votes. In 2005 she voiced support in Washington State Democratic Party circles for the John Murtha Resolution on redeploying American armed forces from Iraq. In early July, Wilson announced that he will pull out of the race, endorse Cantwell, and campaign full time on her behalf, after Maria Cantwell offered him a salary of $8000 a month.
Former Safeco CEO Mike McGavick is the GOP candidate supported by the chairwoman of the Washington State Republican Party, Diane Tebelius. He was once Gorton's Chief of Staff and is believed to have similar moderate-to-conservative politics. The other announced Republican candidates for the Senate seat are paralegal C. Mark Greene, and police officer and minister Brad Klippert.
On March 9, 2006, Aaron Dixon, former captain of the Seattle chapter of the Black Panther Party announced his intention to seek the Green Party's nomination for U.S. Senate, challenging Senator Cantwell on her continued support for the U.S. presence in Iraq and the USA PATRIOT Act. The Libertarian Party nominated Western Washington University business instructor Bruce Guthrie as its candidate in April.
In July, Rasmussen Reports gave Cantwell a 48% to 37% lead. [5] Now, an August 15 poll from Rasmussen Reports has Cantwell in a 46% to 40% lead. [6]

Just think ... the Republicans could lose 5 seats and still control the Senate.

    Yes, I always vote.

But we don't vote for "opposites" really.

    Maria Cantwell of Washington

    A corporate b*tch.

As for the Senate, I don't expect the GOP to lose it.

But again, The House will change to (D)

    Stuff won't change, though.

^ There's no such things as wasting a vote.

Even if someone doesn't vote, it's not really wasting a vote.

    House in the crosshairs
Privately, many Republican strategists fear there may be no way to prevent the Democrats from winning the House, where Republicans hold 231 of 435 seats. One prominent consultant -- who like many of the people interviewed for this article spoke on the condition of anonymity to offer candid appraisals -- put the odds of a Democratic takeover at 75 percent. Another strategist who has worked as part of Bush's campaign team said he believes there is a 9-in-10 chance that Republicans will lose their 12-year-old House majority.
All predict one of the most negative midterm elections in memory, with virtually no positive advertising from the national GOP committees or individual GOP candidates.

I predict they will win both chambers by small margins.

This fake 'war on terrorism' has gone too far.

G.O.P. Seen to Be in Peril of Losing House
By ROBIN TONER and KATE ZERNIKE
WASHINGTON, Sept. 3 — After a year of political turmoil, Republicans enter the fall campaign with their control of the House in serious jeopardy, the possibility of major losses in the Senate, and a national mood so unsettled that districts once considered safely Republican are now competitive, analysts and strategists in both parties say.
Sixty-five days before the election, the signs of Republican vulnerability are widespread.

    I'm not a (D), but here's an excerpt:

Polls show that swing voters — the category that candidates most want to attract — are unhappier than the rest of the population about their economic circumstances. According to a recent survey by Bloomberg News and the Los Angeles Times, six in 10 self-described independents said the economy was doing badly, and seven in 10 said the country was on the wrong track. A Fox News poll, taken at the end of last month, showed that 23 percent of Americans consider the economy the most important factor they will weigh when they cast their ballot in November — more than those who cited Iraq (14 percent) or terrorism (12 percent).

    ^ Yup, me too.

I just read an article a minute about the debt ratios. Highest every. And wages are down for the last 5+ years.

And next year the ARM Mortgage increases will take effect.

^ that's actually good news if you have cash and you are looking for cheap housing

I was thinking of moving back to the US and get a new Mansion. With current silly price level in Thailand for Land, it will be cheaper to buy in the US, with the best infrastructure there. Not like Thailand.

I hope you give me some credit when the elections come in 2 months.

I've been calling the House to change for quite some time.

You are the ONLY person (poster) who came out the gate saying the Senate would be retained by the Republicans, and that the House would go to the Democrats. NOBODY else said that. I said the Republicans would retain both. All others said the Republicans would lose BOTH.
