Me and my galfriend have been together 12 or 13 years, we have discussed getting married but the only benifit is that I get to claim her life insurance if she dies before me, so I am still thinking about it

It's from her old school, as we have no legally binding relationship her family gets first dibs at it, I don't know if you realise how racist Thais were in them days, but when they found out she lived with me, they gave her 2 choices, 1 dump me, 2 be fired, the school then found out they would have to fire about 6 of their teachers cos they were also married or living with farangs.Originally Posted by Bluecat

Nice OP Ice Maiden. I wish there were more women on these forums as there never seems to be much sense from the guys; just lots of posturing.
I think in today's world there isn't much need for marriage, even if you intend to have children. I am fortunate that I never had any children when I was married in my twenties. I'm still trying to work out why I did get married; it certainly wasn't for security as money was never an issue. I suppose it was the done thing and so I followed what was expected of me.
I am very happy that I made the choice to be 'single' again, as living in this part of the world, single is only a temporary state of being. God forbid I still lived in Europe and had to select partners from that pool of suitors.
Mam, I dont think marriage as an institution was ever truly about love.
We are slaves to our desires, men perhaps more so than women. That special feeling starts to fade away after 2-3 years, and whether you go on or not, depends on how much both sides try to keep it going. If they don't, it fails.
At least this is my experience. So marriage really only is interesting if it brings any significant positive change in terms of money or other material respects.

Or two people who like each other, support each other and raise a family together and make a committment to see that through.Originally Posted by Skulldigger
Yeah, if you want to make it sound a little more nice, sure.
No, not trying to make it sound nicer, but you left out having a family and I think that is the only reason for marriage and probably the main reason that people stay together.Originally Posted by Skulldigger
Marriage is an anagram of "I am rager"
Shhhh....be quiet, for the man has spoken...
Ice Maiden, this is a good topic. I got married as a mark of respect to my wife. It was important to her and her family. Being married has not particularly changed my life from the way it was, but I know I am being respectful to my wife.
Is that "Mam" aimed at me? Gosh, it makes me feel old!Originally Posted by Skulldigger
Actually that is a pretty good reason too.Originally Posted by Opus
