If you are referring to the ongoing conflict in the South perhaps you should be aware that the extreme acts committed there by Muslims are in response to oppression by Thai authorities and the continuing persecution against their culture, traditions and people.

It has nothing to do with Extremist Islam.

I have never been offered drugs by any dealer in Thailand. Never seen drugs here and I sometimes frequent the places where I would not be surprised to be approached by a dealer. Have been approached in Australia, England, USA and France and when walking through a shopping centre.

The bottom line is that drug use, and the whole disgusting business that surrounds it is rife across the globe and it should be legalized and controls and systems put in place to monitor it.

Then we wouldn't have to witness the horrible events such as Thaksin's war on drugs and the needles murders of innocent people.

I really feel that no government, (and what ever side of the political and or religious fence they sit on) have any idea on how to handle the present drug situation.

Quite surprised, actually, that they haven't figured a way to tap into the huge resources that drug consumption represents. Give it a few years I say. Health care and other socially beneficial schemmes can be serviced by the control and commercialisation of the drug trade.

Our prisons would empty, again saving tax payers money and the sinister cnuts who run the business at the moment would be out of a job.

We are lucky as foreigners in Thailand we are protected somewhat by our ivory towers.

We rarely, if ever, venture into villages, slums, apartment buildings and housing estates where drugs are prevalent in Thailand.

Venture into these areas and the chance of you being offered drugs or being around drug users increases substantially.

Thailand has a serious methamphetamine problem. It's no exaggeration that millions are addicted. The Thai media is constantly reporting on yaabaa related incidents.

Any Thai person will tell you about this scourge.
