TD Charity events - should we have them?

Recently Wally and I were discussing whether or not there would be any interest in doing a TD Charity Event.

I immediately said I was interested in doing a charity parachute jump - which I believe you can do in Pattaya. I believe Wally opted for the Bungy (or is it Bungie?) jump. I believe CMn will go for a golf session

Anyhow, if we can arrange it (possibly with some corporate sponsors), would any other members be interested in doing something for charity?

More importantly; if so, which charity should we be looking to help - one, or a round-robin?

Yes, I am heavily interested in a charity event.

I should be the recipient, and we should take turns on who pitches in and who collects.

Sounds good to me. Wake me up and Lemme know when it's my turn.

^^ if I knew it would help to pay the school fees for some kids in Isaan, or whatever else my fellow TD members may decide is a worthy cause, yep!

I think it's a good idea, but the logistics of such an event are a little tricky.
Very difficult to get everyone in one place at the same time.

how about a sponsored competition thread of some kind, every entry to whatever competition 100 baht or some such.

we could, of course, have a Wet T-shirt Contest. I believe I did one of those back home.

No, all joking apart, the floor is open to all suggestions...

..even a rejection of the idea as stupid

    CMn - agreed.

But let's say we get Wally do his Bungy(ie) jump. And let say we get 500 baht per member - for Wally alone.

At today's membership that would be 350,000 baht.

Shit, I know some organisations that could do with that regardless of where it takes place..

I used to do a lot of work for the blind school here in Pattaya, also the old peoples home, although they seem to be doing ok now charity wise, the blind school was awfull, they had teenagers using potties cos all there toilets were broken, we rebuilt all them, but that was quite a few years ago, no idea of what state they are in now, I think sponsoring kids to goto school would be a good one, but the money would have to goto the school directly cos the parents would spend it otherwise.

    A bally good point.
I was actually out on a bike ride with Frankie yesterday.
We stopped off at the Mae Rim bungee jump and watched a 10 year old hurl himself off the crane to almost certain death.

I didn't fancy it, but Frankie said he'd be game.

Lots of HIV orphanages up here could do with it too.

I don'rt want to sound callous, but they are a continued expenditure and are sort of funded anyway, I reckon kids school fees is the thing, but you aint getting me jumping out of perfectly good planes nor bungy jumping.

well, we should listen to what the Memership has to say, but it sounds like there could be some kind of goer.

I'd also be interested to hear what RDN has to say about Phuket and the area around there for schools, etc. following the Tsunami.

I'd be willing to pay way more than 500 baht to see DD jumping out of a plane.
    Yes.
I think that's the way forward, you'd probably get loads of sponsorship from TV and ajarn too.

Sponsoring Smeg not to post might also prove rather popular.

^ hell, we'd have more chance:

    (a) asking GoW and Ice to do the Wet T-Shirt; or
    (b) buying the nick off of him.

How about we all sponsor Dr PP to do a bungie jump?

Of course, the cord would have to be around his neck....

I see the 'TV' members are queueing up to help....

I suppose the pension is a bit tight what with supporting the extended family in Isaan.

Anyway, I'm up for a sponsored Guinness binge.
