With 71 votes in favour and 10 against, the Israeli Parliament has passed a law that makes it possible to prevent foreign television channels from broadcasting in the country.

The law means that Israel's communications minister, along with the prime minister, can order a suspension of broadcasting if they agree that the channel's content "directly threatens the security of the country", writes Israeli media outlet Haaretz.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would immediately act in accordance with the new law and stop Al Jazeera's activity.

"The terrorist channel Al Jazeera will no longer broadcast from Israel," he said.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called the law troubling:

"We believe in freedom of the press," she said.

The US were always quick to call Israel "the only true democracy in the Middle East" or some such shite.

Now Israel is rigging the constitution to protect the crook in charge, and censoring the media, that starts to sound a bit farcical.

as for the aid workers, well it is unfortunate of course, but in the fog of war, any war, those who put themselves in danger stand a chance of being killed.

i dont seem to remember such an outcry when foreign aid workers were killed in the ukraine, or syria and there are wars going on in eastern africa (and what a surprise .. they have something to do with the aggressive demands of radical islam) but i dont read of any aid workers rushing to help the civilians in those war torn countries.

there is an outcry about western countries supplying arms to israel, and holding them complicit in the so called genocide of palestinians. but we dont hear condemnation of iran for supplying and financing hamas rockets and weapons, or condemnation of china for selling arms to russia to be used in the ukraine.

the blatant hypocrisy of the pro palestinians is a fucking joke.

3. israel killed some of its own hostages who had escaped a couple of months ago who were fleeing hamas. also a mistake. the media weren't

4. mistakes happen but october 7 wasn’t a mistake and all roads lead back to the event that precipitated this war.
