    MP: Don't touch liquor bill

Again it's unfortunately a Post article, so link only, but essentially the Move Forward party introduced a bill in June that breaks open the Thai liquor monopoly, and of course the usual suspects are upset about it. Big personal revenue stream in peril I would imagine.

So why do you think Move Forward are doing this?

Just electioneering? To try and get their share of the cake tins? Or a genuine interest in fairness?

The bloke actually does a good job of shooting down the feeble arguments they come up with to protect the few, i.e. if it's out of a genuine concern that alcohol is bad, why not ban it altogether?

He's also named the three amigos who might be upset about it and told them to wind their neck in. Good lad. Will follow this with interest.

"Supporters said the bill will break the monopoly held by a few corporate distillers and allow small-scale producers to enter the market."

    Brilliant idea.

Because Taopiphop Limjitrakorn who proposed the bill was arrested in 2017 for brewing unlicensed beer, it stuck with him and he proposed the law change. Plus its simply the right thing to do.

I don't know if this bill covers beer, I'll be fucking ecstatic if it does because the monopoly shit is all dog piss.

The corporate interests won't be too bothered.

As happens in other countries they just buy up any successful craft brewer and put them on their own books. The punters still get good beer and the small brewery owner mints a small fortune.

Indeed. Dog piss, goat piss all crap. Sadly even the Thai Craft beers are the same. You pay more for the same piss. The Thai Whiskey is awful as well. Thankfully imported beer/wine/spirits are available. Worth every baht.

Exactly what happens to many of them. To keep the public happy they hide the acquisition for awhile then it just shows up on the label that no one reads.

It will be a long haul trying to be an independent here. Too much money available by the big 2 or 3 to keep them from being successful.

    ...and too many biddable MPs.

A big problem is that if thousands and thousands of litres are produced regulations and fees are easier.

The laws are carefully framed to favour monopoly.
