I'm going for Jeremy Hunt. He's been installed by the party faithful as chancellor and likely to take on the leadership role when Truss decides enough is enough and resigns.

I'm not sure the Tories can get rid of Truss easily, she basically has to resign.

Truss is unlikely to resign unfortunately. She has no ‘big picture’ view, and no long term view of the future. I can see a future where women end up leading all the major parties, here and abroad. Truss is not one of them. She does not have that skill set common to most females.

With a true lack of statesman like politicians, there is a serious need for thoughtful, considered political solutions, but sadly for Truss, it needs someone who actually cares about considerate diplomacy. Truss only cares about Truss.

Its a grim thought that the country could be stuck with her for quite some time.

I have heard a Morduant Sunak pairing proposed, and that seems reasonable at face value. I would prefer Tugenhat with a moderate, sensible partner.

Must say, I am learning new things in the UK's political mess.

How could British PM Truss be removed, and how would she be replaced?

I am going for Penny. Hunt is the more likely perhaps. I still think there might have been some truth in the allegation that in the last contest Sunak got some of his supporters to vote Truss in the penultimate round, in that way eliminating Penny because he thought Liz would be an easier opponent to overcome than Penny. If that was his plan it failed. At this point it is possible that the Tory party could see Penny as someone around whom the forces could gather. It is about as likely as most other scenarios.

Well, Jeremy Hunt has pretty much taken over the Truss government and looks to have done a pretty good job in reversing all her fiscal policies and keeping the markets happy. He has said that he is not going to contend for the next leadership but may well be a good caretaker leader until someone else is chosen.

Truss has proven to be just as bad as I foretold during the leadership election, nothing surprising there. She needs to go quicker than that wet lettuce joke, an utter embarrassment.

Good to see that J R-M has been shown up as an utter tool yet again. One hopes he loses his seat and his fortune...

The Conservative party did not fancy Hunt but now are all pretty much relieved a traditional Tory is at the Treasury and he will remain there.
Mordaunt is the runner most likely to win the prize. Sunak’s stock has been devalued by Hunt’s obvious competence and he is still seen as the Brutus who slayed The Clown.
Mordaunt impressed everyone at the King’s accession council which she conducted with much aplomb and her performance this pm at Urgent Questions in the Commons simply confirmed her confidence and ability to stand and fight her corner with skill and wit.

The 1922 Committee will put it to Truss that she should resign and give way to Mordaunt who will be anointed as PM when no one else stands. If Truss objects then the 1922 Committee will change the election rules by acclamation and after an overwhelming vote of no confidence Mordaunt will replace her.
Truss will be gone in a week or so.

To be honest, I was surprised she was still PM when I got back from work today. She's obviously even more stupid than I thought, if that's possible.

^ Better to resign than hide under the desk and let Penny Maundant cover for you. Penny and Jeremy did a good job today.

When the very policies with which you win the leadership campaign have to be trashed, it's time to fall on your sword. Not doing so makes a bad position even worse.

Hunt will not stand. His week will be busy massaging the budget, and getting it to fit the criteria he wants and ensuring the OBR agree with him.

    Boris will stand. WTF?

Neither I, the markets nor the general public appear to be happy with far right or far left policies. The Tory party has been influenced far too much by the far right element of their party since 2016. It is payback time and I am enjoying every minute of it.

My solution? Too late for that now. The UK in full meltdown is too enjoyable to watch from afar with a little banner that reads: 'I told you so!'
