New Zealand not getting too carried away, having provided a pair of doorhandles.

Australian-built coach will take King Charles to ceremony

King Charles and Camilla will be taken from Buckingham Palace to the ceremony in Westminster Abbey in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, which was built to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's 60th year on the throne.

WJ Frecklington had completed the build Sydney in 2010 and it was first used in 2014, at the time making it only the second royal carriage constructed in a century.

The carriage — which has an air-conditioned interior — consists of number of expensive and symbolic components, including New Zealand-made doorhandles with diamonds and sapphires, fragments of Sir Isaac Newton's apple tree and wood from the door on 10 Downing Street.

I am looking forward to watching Princess Anne (and her horse) during the ceremony.

Princess Anne ‘incredibly honoured’ by major coronation role

Princess Anne has been handed the prestigious role of Gold-Stick-in-Waiting at her brother King Charles’ coronation.

The 72-year-old Princess Royal will travel on horseback behind the 74-year-old monarch and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, after they are crowned at Westminster Abbey on May 6, and in her position as personal aide-de-camp she will then lead the larger procession featuring 6000 people from the armed services while the couple travels in the Gold State Coach.

According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, Anne was “incredibly honoured” when Charles told her of his wish she takes the position, which is seen as a reward for both her decades of duty and the advice she gives her older brother.

A source said: “The direction of the King’s decision is clear for all to see.

”He is rewarding the Princess Royal for her loyalty and her unwavering devotion to duty above all else.

”The King values his sister as a trusted lieutenant and this is the perfect example of such a relationship.”

The privilege dates back to the 15th century, when two officers, a Gold Stick and a Silver Stick, were placed close to the sovereign to protect them from danger.

The roles are now only used on ceremonial and state occasions, with the Gold Stick role held jointly by the Colonels of the Life Guards and the Blues and Royals, both being Regiments of the Household Cavalry of the Household Division, while the Commander of the Household Cavalry, who holds the rank of colonel and is in charge of the sovereign’s ceremonial duties, is the Silver Stick.

Anne has executed the role on previous occasions as she is colonel of the Blues and Royals.

A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said: “Further details of the Coronation Procession will be released in due course.”

On May 6, during the coronation, the Archbishop of Canterbury will lead the pledge, which is called the Homage of The People, calling on the people of the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland and other Realms and Territories:

Does that bother you? Does that mean you will be swearing allegiance? How quaint. Do you believe that God magically infuses the royalty with special semi-deity powers or however that works?

Britain's King Charles, who has spent a lifetime campaigning for sustainability and against a throwaway economy, will wear clothing previously worn by his predecessors, including his mother and grandfather, for his coronation next week.

Charles, 74, will be crowned at London’s Westminster Abbey on May 6, during a grand ceremony at which he will wear or be handed regalia charged with religious and historical symbolism.

Many of those items, such as the crowns and sceptres, date back centuries, but Charles will also be re-using some garments that have appeared at coronations since 1821 "in the interests of sustainability and efficiency", Buckingham Palace said on Monday.

Among the vestments to reappear will be the coronation glove made for his grandfather, George VI.

"We've got this wonderful, sustainable, eco-friendly king who's reusing something rather than having a new glove," said Deborah Moore, the chief executive of Dents which made the glove with gold embroidery for George VI's 1937 coronation. "It's also a little bit of heritage, a bit of looking back to the past for our very modern king," said Moore, whose firm also made the glove for the 1953 coronation of Charles' mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

During the ceremony, the glove, made of white leather embroidered with gilt metal thread, is placed onto the right hand of the monarch during the ceremony as a reminder that the sovereign should exercise gentleness in raising taxes.

Charles will also wear his grandfather's 'Colobium Sindonis' - a white linen shift-like tunic, and the sword belt he wore, again eschewing the tradition of having a new one made.

Other regalia Charles will don during the service, whose roots date back 1,000 years to his Norman predecessors, includes the 'supertunica', a full-length, sleeved coat of gold silk, which was made for the coronation of King George V, Charles' great-grandfather, and worn by subsequent monarchs including Elizabeth.

Over this he will wear the Imperial Mantle, made of cloth of gold and originally produced for the coronation of George IV in 1821.

"They are fairly heavy to wear," said Caroline de Guitaut, Deputy Surveyor of the King's Works of Arts.

King Charles' sister Princess Anne says streamlining the royal family "doesn't sound like a good idea"

Princess Anne, the younger sister of King Charles III, gave a rare interview ahead of her brother's Saturday coronation, telling Canadian public broadcaster CBC that streamlining Britain's royal family to make it a smaller, cheaper enterprise for U.K. taxpayers, "doesn't sound like a good idea."

There had been reports that King Charles might look to reduce the number of "working" members of the royal family, and thus the cost of maintaining the monarchy, CBS News partner network BBC News reported.

When asked if a slimmed down monarchy would be a good idea, however, Anne said — without any explicit reference to the high-profile departures of both her brother, Prince Andrew, or her nephew Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, from their senior roles as working royals — that the suggestion might have been made "when there were a few more people around."

She noted that the world had changed, and the members of the family who still do serve official functions were getting older.

"It doesn't sound like a good idea from where I'm standing," she said.

Anne said she and other royal family members would likely "have to shift the way we support" the new monarch, but she didn't explain what she expected that to mean.

"My mother didn't change very much. We kind of knew what the rhythm of the year was. So that will, things like that will change," Anne told the CBC. "How we are part of the support for the monarchy may change slightly, who knows."

As her brother prepares for his coronation, Princess Anne said he was likely to change very little in his new role.

"You know what you're getting, because he's been practicing for a bit, and I don't think he'll change," Anne said. "He is committed to… his own level of service and that will remain true."

    Man arrested outside Buckingham Palace

A man was arrested outside Buckingham Palace after throwing suspected shotgun cartridges into Palace grounds, police have said.

A cordon was erected and a controlled explosion carried out following the incident, which unfolded at around 19:00 BST on Tuesday.

The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. There are no reports of any injuries.

The incident is not currently being treated as terror-related.

Overnight rehearsals for the Coronation on Saturday went ahead as planned.

Police say the man was searched and a knife was found but that he was not carrying a gun. They say he was also found to be in possession of a suspicious bag and that a controlled explosion was carried out as a precaution following an assessment by specialists.

It is understood it is being treated as an isolated mental health incident.

The arrest comes just four days before the King's Coronation celebrations - which will be attended by world leaders and other royals from around the world.

Security minister Tom Tugendhat described the response as "a fantastic piece of policing", adding that "a huge security operation" is in place ahead of the Coronation.

"As you saw last night, the police and security services are absolutely ready to intervene when necessary," he told BBC Breakfast.

The King and the Queen Consort - who live at nearby Clarence House - were not at Buckingham Palace at the time of the arrest, although the King did host Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the palace earlier on Tuesday.

Chief Supt Joseph McDonald said: "Officers worked immediately to detain the man and he has been taken into police custody.

"There have been no reports of any shots fired, or any injuries to officers or members of the public.

"Officers remain at the scene and further enquiries are ongoing."

The BBC's royal producer Sarah Parrish was in the broadcast compound outside Buckingham Palace when she was told to leave and wait outside.

She told the BBC News Channel that those who were evacuated had "heard the controlled explosion and then we were allowed back in again."

The suspected shotgun cartridges have been recovered and will be examined by specialists. Roads in the area have now reopened and the cordons have been lifted.

Rehearsals for the Coronation saw soldiers dressed in bright yellow and red uniforms file past the palace and along the Mall in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The parade also featured soldiers on horseback and the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, which will carry the King and Queen Consort from the palace to Westminster Abbey.

Extra security is expected in the capital for the Coronation, which policing minister Chris Philp has described as a "huge policing operation".

Asked about the prospect of protesters disrupting the weekend's events, Maj Gen Chris Ghika, a senior British Army officer overseeing the ceremony, said the Metropolitan Police has "an excellent security plan in place, which will allow the parade to go ahead".

Chris Phillips, former head of the UK National Counter Terrorism Security Office, told the BBC that police have been planning for the Coronation for years, and that an "enormous amount of planning" has gone into the security operation.

"The police should be celebrated for it, and fingers crossed it all goes well on Saturday," he said.

King Charles arrives for Coronation rehearsals at Westminster Abbey

Royal rehearsals for King Charles' Coronation: Monarch, Queen Camilla, William, Kate and their children all arrive at Westminster Abbey as they prepare for the big event

King Charles and Prince William led the Royal Family today in rehearsals for the Coronation at Westminster Abbey.

With just days to go until the historic event, His Majesty was pictured beaming outside the church in central London as he arrived with the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children Prince George, nine, Charlotte, eight, and Louis, five.

Princess Anne and Queen Consort Camilla were there to greet the Dean of Westminster and other church officials before they went inside. The royals were also joined by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

It comes after thousands of personnel from the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force marched from Buckingham Palace to the Abbey in the early hours of this morning as they practiced for the big day on Saturday, May 6.

The Diamond Jubilee State Coach and Gold State Coach were also used in the full-scale rehearsal shortly after midnight.

Royal fans waited for more than three hours for the parade to make a return journey down the Mall.

And commuters heading home from London Waterloo were treated to extraordinary scenes as they saw some 6,000 soldiers march through the station on their way to the rehearsals.

After today's rehearsals, King Charles gave a wave to throngs of fans as he travelled back to Buckingham Palace.

Supporters cheered as his Bentley drove past. American fan Justin Klamerus, who has flown in for the Coronation from Atlanta, Georgia, told MailOnline: 'Who would've thought that I would get to see the King of England so close?

'I arrived on Monday I went straight to Windsor and did see really very much.

'But this was absolutely amazing. It's an experience that I will remember forever, as I'm a big fan of the royal family, and that's why I came here.'

'I also saw Princess Anne going by earlier and as they say, great things always come along in twos! '

'But I am here to witness history being made. I wish the King all the very best. I'm sure he'll be a great ruler for Britain.'

Around 25 tents have been set up along the Mall by fans who are camping out for the Coronation.

Among the first to take up position was careworker Lucy Edwards, 51, from Bristol, who will be joined by her 74-year-old mother Linda and teenage son Jacob tomorrow.

She said: 'It has been very, very cold and the ground here is very hard to sleep on.

'I have witnessed most of Charles's life, his marriage, his divorce, and when he got married again. Now I'm here for the Coronation.

'All of these events that made him the man that he is and he appears happy in his life. He is going to be a great King and bring the country together.'

Mother of five Sharon McEwan, 62, from Kilburn, said: 'Hail King Charles. He is going to make the nation wonderful throughout his reign.

'I am a regular at royal events and enjoy meeting the same people who love the royal family and meeting new people from all over the world. This will be a fantastic day.'

Faith Nicholson, 61, from Althorne, Essex, was draped in Union Jack colours and carried a Paddington Bear in honour of the Queen's sketch with the character at her Platinum Jubilee last year.

She said: 'There is so much to celebrate about our Royal Family. They are loved the world over, and we will see that over the next few days.

'They are the best advert for our country. You cannot fail to love them. And Charles will make a magnificent King with his sense of fair play, and he has been a pioneer in so many ways over things like environmental concerns.

'I have been to all the major Royal occasions and they have provided such positive memories for me as Saturday will do too.

King Charles III coronation: Crowns and jewels to go on display

Troubled diamonds and ‘sustainable’ crowns: The storied bling adorning the King’s coronation

A coronation offers a rare glimpse into the British royal family’s famous treasures, the crown jewels, which are normally locked away in the medieval Tower of London.

Only seen in public on important state occasions, the crowning of King Charles III on Saturday will see the monarchy’s regalia and finery on full display.

Here is a guide to what will be on display and what it means:

    One of many

    Sovereign’s scepter with cross

This highly symbolic item includes the Cullinan I diamond, the largest colorless cut diamond in the world, also known as the First Star of Africa. Weighing 3.7 ounces, the staff had to be reinforced when the stone was added.

The scepter, made for Charles II in 1661, represents the monarch’s power — even though in modern Britain, the role of a king is largely symbolic and constitutional, rather than all-conquering.

Various additions have been made over the years: George IV added an enameled rose, thistle and shamrock representing England, Scotland and Ireland (apparently overlooking Wales in the process).

A wonderful example to the youth a man who betrayed his own oath to Diana .

However he rehabilitated himself talking to flowers and has ambitions to be a Tampon.

Wills et al must be miffed if he stuffs up they may end up like the Dutch and Danes on a bike or like Marie Antoinette on a pole or Candy in Simon's fannypack,

Camilla laughs: “What are you going to turn into, a pair of knickers? Oh, you're going to come back as a pair of knickers.”
Charles replies: “Or, God forbid, a Tampax. Just my luck! My luck to be chucked down a lavatory and go on and on forever swirling round on the top, never going down.”

Makes you realize the sort of anointed God chose for England.

During the reign of Elizabeth, I was reassured by her consistency and continuity. She still managed to drag the monarchy, kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

By comparison, Charles has displayed a degree of petulance and selfishness, particularly in respect of Camilla and her titles and forms of address. The future King has a duty to preserve all that his mother sought to retain, and to avoid the sense of entitlement he has shown since her death.

The public should, and will ignore his policy for the future of the monarchy. He has diluted the prestige earned by his mother. Shame on him. The Princess Royal has done more than Charles ever could, in spite of her role as a senior Royal. She lives and breathes it, unlike her brother who uses it to further his personal agenda.

He is a very old and spoiled, selfish child. The monarchy I once supported will very soon be in tatters. The selfless Anne would have been his best guidance to the future. His selfish attitude has allowed him to dilute and undermine all that his mother worked so hard for.
Philosophy is questions that may never be answered. Religion is answers that may never be questioned.

King Charles III from his birth to his coronation date: See his life in photos

1960: A royal family of five

    1970s: Meets Camilla Shand

    2005: Marries Camilla

    __________

Camila's coronation crown won't bear the Koh-i-noor — in part because of history

Why the Koh-i-noor diamond won't make an appearance at King Charles III's coronation

Of all the glittering British crown jewels, one will be conspicuously absent at King Charles III's coronation: the Koh-i-noor diamond.

Legend has it the 105-carat diamond — whose name means "mountain of light" in Persian — was found on a bank of the holy Krishna River in southern India at least 800 years ago. From there, the story goes, it spent centuries hidden inside a golden statue at a Hindu temple.

It passed through Mughal, Persian, Afghan and Sikh empires before ending up in the hands of Queen Victoria in the mid-19th century.

Along the way, people came to believe it was cursed. Calamity is said to have struck many a male royal who wore it. One strapped the diamond to his bicep. Another folded it into his turban. Most met grisly deaths — murdered, betrayed, defeated.

So it's thought that only women — especially queen consorts — can wear the Koh-i-noor safely. Elizabeth, the wife of King George VI, wore it to her coronation in 1937, and again to her daughter Elizabeth II's in 1953. (There is no known record of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the diamond).

According to tradition, King Charles III's wife Camilla would be the next to wear the jewel at this weekend's coronation ceremony. But she will wear a different crown, one with 2,200 smaller diamonds.

That's because the Koh-i-noor has become a focus of anti-colonial anger. India wants the diamond back.

And it's not alone. So do several other nearby countries — including Iran and Afghanistan — whose own royals and rulers, over the centuries, possessed the diamond. For now, though, the British royal family has no intention of parting with the giant gemstone.

The museum where it's kept on display, in the Tower of London, is a popular destination for South Asian tourists.

"I've learned my best swears in front of the Koh-i-noor, in three different languages," says historian Anita Anand, the coauthor of Koh-i-noor: The History of the World's Most Infamous Diamond. "Every time you bring someone over from India or Pakistan, they just swear at it! Swear at the fact that it's here."

After Queen Elizabeth died last year, the Indian government said it has repeatedly raised the issue of repatriating the Koh-i-noor with the British government.

And this winter, Buckingham Palace made an announcement: The royal family had decided to leave the controversial gem out of the coronation ceremony for Charles and Camilla.

For now, it remains locked in the Tower of London, advertised as a "symbol of conquest" — firmly on British soil.
